Satellite TV Question

Post by Turkeytop » Tue Jul 13, 2021 10:03 pm

We have satellite in our house. During heavy rain it loses the signal and a message comes on the screen.

"Satellite signal has been lost. You can wait for the signal to return or you can select Video On Demand.'

If they can't deliver regular signal due to the weather, how can they deliver video on demand?

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

If the box is connected to the Internet, then it can stream that way. Otherwise it would just be programs they downloaded and stored on your box.

Mine isn't connected to the Internet, so it must be the other thing. Never actually tried it.

Don't they make a sock to cover your dish in case of rain or snow?

Alternatively, what's worth watching these days?

If I understood correctly from another forum here on the BB, there's a steady diet of Britney Spears and celebrity space travel when that bowl is working...

I remember being in a Radio Shack, and all their TV's went blank (that were on the birds)- asked what was going on...he said "wait for it" and 2 minutes later all hell broke loose with a thunderstorm, so high cloudtops are easily detected, in advance, with the satellite service that they were peddling at that time.

That's why I don't watch TV. I just use it to babysit my wife while I'm outside or down in the basement with my radios.

Turkeytop, I know why you had to get satellite, because I use an OTA antenna, and although it works great for the local HDTV, but, when I fire up the Ham rigs, the XYL gets pissed when the ham antenna blasts right into the TV antenna and tears her signal. Sucky. But don't want satellite, but gonna have to find something since OTA is limited to non-amateur radio use.

Just tell her to let you have the remote, and you won't need to blast her signal.

You get X amount of hours on the air.
She gets the same amount of time in front of the TV.

Better yet, have her get a ham license also. That way you can talk to each other over the air. "XYL, this is ManoftheHouse calling on 20 meters. What's for dinner, over?"

Misogynist.

What's more pathetic: harassing an old man who is paying to do a radio show or supporting a grifter like Trump?
