TV Guide
TV Guide
I was at the doctors office the other day. I was thumbing through the magazines and there was a TV Guide. I miss the old Readers Digest sized TV Guide. Not a fan of the magazine sized TV Guide. Anyways I was looking through it and I noticed that the TV listings were vastly different. In the listings it doesn't give channel call letters. It's pretty much says CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, etc... and not 5, 25, 12, 66. I thought this unusual but maybe this way they don't have to print a gazillion editions for the different markets. I dunno. Thoughts?
Re: TV Guide
This is sad as to what happened to the TV Giude Mag and on top of that it’s like $5. a copy, Even the Sunday Paper has a crappy TV Book with like 14 pages, That used to be the reason to get the Sunday Freep and News for the TV Book, But thanks to technology here we are, I do wish we had the small TV Book from either paper like the good old days, We used to tie it to the TV stand so no one in the house would misplace the TV Bible, And we would get ours on Friday or Saturday for the new week, The old days they were great weren’t they?
Re: TV Guide
Yep, they were! I saved a bunch of old TV Guide's from the 80's. Or was it 90's? lol

Re: TV Guide
With today's interactive TV Guides built in to cable boxes, not many people are buying the magazine like they did 20 years ago. So they arent going to spend all that money to print region specific ones anymore.
Music is my life.

Re: TV Guide
Even the Downriver News-Herald discontinued their separate TV listing section, merging that into their lifestyle section. On top of that, it's often inaccurate.
My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!
Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

Re: TV Guide
I picked up the Sunday Free Press today and I was surprised as how the one I picked up still had the separate TV Book (or "TV Weekly Lite", whatever).
It was indeed light, only a small number of pages and the small size, but I did like how they still list all the Toledo OTA stations (minus WTOL), the Lansing stations (though WLAJ is mislabeled with WJRT's former analog number for some reason) as well as CBET, CICO and CKCO from Ontario (though minus CHWI and CIII).

Re: TV Guide
My grandfather still uses the TV Guide listings from the paper... He refuses to learn the EPG on his cable box...
Re: TV Guide
I don’t know how many newspapers print a TV Guide, I know here in Macomb County the Macomb daily prints a TV guide but you have to pay for it, Also the Detroit News and Free Press has the Sunday 14 page TV guide as well .
Re: TV Guide
The Tampa Bay Times has one available as an add on to your subscription at an extra cost.
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.

Re: TV Guide
They discontinued the regional editions in 2005, in favor of the national listings. I gave up on TVG in 2004 when they began to mess with the listings format. And I have yet to even handle a TVG since its 2005 revamp. The last couple of times that I bought a TV magazine of any kind was in 2011 (when I bought a cheap, digest-sized TV magazine in Paris) and 2013, when I bought a copy of TV Hebdo in Montreal (don't get me started on their inclusion of listings for WTOL).TheForce wrote: ↑Sun Feb 17, 2019 9:24 amI was at the doctors office the other day. Re: TV Guide
Apparently, that's the trend of some newspapers these days, in which they offer a TV magazine as an extra-cost add-on, instead of free every Sunday. I've seen a sample issue in the TBT one Sunday last year (shortly before our move to Maine) -- I was not impressed. If we have to pay extra, it should be of the same caliber as TV Guide magazine; instead, it was less in quality than the free "TV Times" that preceeded it.

I'm still impressed at that! Having one channel from my hometown in a paper far, far away like that!rugratsonline wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 10:51 pmThey discontinued the regional editions in 2005, in favor of the national listings. Re: TV Guide
This was likely a holdout from the period around 1994-1995 when WTOL was briefly the Eastern Time Zone CBS feed on Cancom. Some Guy from Toledo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 2:42 amI'm still impressed at that! Re: TV Guide
I remember TV Guide keeping listings for WKBD into the 2000s in both the Northern Michigan and Northern Wisconsin TV Guides (oddly, the Northern Wisconsin edition never had WGKI/WFQX in their guides despite that TV Guide being the TV guide for the UP outside of the eastern three counties and WGKI/WFQX being on cable in most of the UP and into Wisconsin from 1995 until 2003)

Re: TV Guide
I don't remember WKBD in the Northern MI guide in the 90s. But I was in Cheboygan, and you all know the story of Cable in Cheboygan back then...ftballfan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 11:53 pmI remember TV Guide keeping listings for WKBD into the 2000s in both the Northern Michigan and Northern Wisconsin TV Guides (oddly, the Northern Wisconsin edition never had WGKI/WFQX in their guides despite that TV Guide being the TV guide for the UP outside of the eastern three counties and WGKI/WFQX being on cable in most of the UP and into Wisconsin from 1995 until 2003)
