Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

To jaded or MW, or anyone who might know: *Customarily, storms of a severe nature seem to lesson in intensity towards the late evening or overnight. I wonder why this hasn’t been the case lately…. *Has this been a relatively rough storm season? It seems like we’ve had some calm summers the last few...

Maybe he's trying to keep a safe distance from her scandals?

Re: McCain - 'Pothole Pete' screwing over lower income and middle class Americans!

How would you propose we break the cycle of ignorance? The stupid elect stupid school board members, stupid City officials, stupid sheriffs and next thing you know you end up with places like Coldwater, Imlay City, or Alpena. They don't want more money for education. I agree there should be an oppo...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

As I was watching the radar signatures as the storms rolled across Lake Michigan, I thought it was interesting that when they were leaving the Wisconsin shore, their shape mimicked the shoreline of the state. As they rolled across the lake, it appears they "adjusted" so by the time the made landfal...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

The HRRR doesn't really give the atmosphere an opportunity to recover tomorrow as it develops deep convection to the south, limiting moisture transport up here. It seems like the CAMs are pushing the jet stream a bit farther south than the GFS/Euro, which would support that conclusion. I'm looking a...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

00Z sounding for DTX shows 35 kt winds at 850 mb, which is robust enough to support MCS maintenance. I'm a bit concerned about instability though. Lots of dry air in the sounding compared to the 19Z Green Bay sounding. We would need a bit more moisture aloft to steepen those mid-level lapse rates, b...

If you ask me we spend far too much time cuddling the hay seeds out in the rural areas. In 2020, there were approximately 57.23 million people living in rural areas in the United States, compared to about 272.91 million people living in urban areas. https://www.statista.com/statistics/985183/size-u...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV

Looks like today's storms formed in the right location to put us in the heart of the trajectory of a robust MCS moving across Metro Detroit sometime around or shortly after midnight tonight. Super steep mid level lapse rates (8.6ºC/km at 19Z observed in Green Bay; 8.3ºC/km in Davenport, IA.) along w...

Texas COVID crisis

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/08/09/texas-hospitals-elective-procedures-covid-greg-abbott/ As COVID cases continue to mount and vaccination rates in Texas remain abysmally low around 53% (1 dose; 44% fully vaccinated), Governor Greg Abbott is requesting that all hospitals in the state postpone e...

Re: Vaccine Not So Effective?

- the number of hospitalizations do. And that number is? As a percentage of the population. I don't have that number offhand, but I would argue that the metric to focus on should be total number of available hospital beds (partitioned by ER, ICU, etc) compared to typical values. Bulk national stati...

Re: Vaccine Not So Effective?

If you're not going to get the vaccine, then at least try not to spread the virus and fuck everything else up for the rest of us that want to get on with our lives. Accepting the poke in no way ensures that you won't get or spread the virus. Your point is counterfactual. It's still an open question...

Re: Waze

I agree with many of the posters here that Waze is definitely the way to go. I use it on my commutes just because of how well it optimizes and adapts its directions based on current traffic conditions.
