Re: Scanners
GettingJammed Up with Scanners Every time I updated my scanners to the latest schemes the industry skips ahead . I got a trunk tracking scanner and then the jump to digital came along. Now there are several different modes of digital so I will just listen to the aircraft, occasional Marine traffic ...

Re: Practical FM Antenna Seminar
I had a nice 5 element "3 Meter Band" Yagi up for a while. Had 2 driven elements, one for the lower half and one for the upper half. a few inches different length. I used a 4:1 balun to use coax to the 300 Ohm feedpoint. My FM tuner input was converted to a 75 Ohm F connector I mounted on the back p...

Re: Got My GMRS License
Maybe CB but on UHF, without the world wide DX capabilities of 11 Meters .
And with the possibility of using repeaters on tall towers and rooftops on office buildings and high points to extend range.

Re: Dead Air today
HA, Don't listen for AM anymore on the ham bands. Not operating any SSB or FM for at least the last ten years, sticking to CW for now . Back to basics but a lot better at them than my high school novice days :D Also like working the Orphan bands like 12 and 17 and even 160 M, a triumph whenever I ma...

Kennelley, I did some weekly measuring of field strength points late at night when I worked at WXYZ here. They had two towers trying to do what three usually did. NOW they have NINE TOWERS !!!!

Re: Dead Air today
This happened again a few times this week when both WCXI and WPON were transmitting dead carrier. Still think the only common thing could be a T-1 phone line from studios to a common point on site. Anyone have an idea what's going on ? Anyone know someone working for that Birach place ?

Re: Got My GMRS License
Years ago I had a GMRS license since the guys I worked for had a couple of repeaters for hire. I was offered a spot on one. I think my callsign was KAE0106. I had a mobile in my car and a control station (base) sitting on top of the refrigerator at the house. I could be in touch with the wife and so...

Re: Dead Air today
Two stations at shared site, probably T-1 Studio to transmitter line from phone co down !
I could always blame the phone co when a remote two way base went down. (most often, it WAS)

Dead Air today
Just tuned in my local stations, WCXI and WPON, heard NOTHING, just strong carriers and not even a background 60 Hz hum I could detect. Another one , WNZK from down near flat rock was transmitting a loud white noise hiss like an open Squelch on an FM receiver (STL ? ). This comes after a week of sto...

The antenna is on a tower most of the way to the top of the mountain ridge that runs from the north into the city. TV trasmitters for ElPaso also on that ridge.

Re: Downriver AM transmitters
Another downriver site I think got skiped is 1200, now WMUZ AM, originally was WCHB where the old 1440 got a new callsign; WMKM ! They are at King Rd and Middlebelt about 6.15 miles West of WJR's tower and 3 miles south of Metro airport. Looks like two rows of 5 towers parallel and lined up north an...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters
LOoks like WUFL three tower pattern is aimed S.W. About 220 degrees. Aimed right across Detroit's northen suburbs ! Deep nulls to north and S.E. Don't they have low power FM retransmitters in Detroit ? Yes ! I see two in Detroit proper, one in Rochester hills, (where hey have a REALLY strog AM signa...
