Re: WTF?> WDIV F*cks up NBC news feed on 4.3, again.

Late Night on Friday 1/12, while the snow and ice was flying and before Xfinity went out on me, I channeled past MeTV (298/4.3), and it was simulcasting the Tonight Show, in some bizarre aspect ratio, instead of regular MeTV fare. They just can't get that sh*t right.

Re: Michigan Radio drops "Radio" from its name

We can blame new GM Wendy Turner for the vapid rebrand. I see they've turned off comments on Facebook for the post where the rebrand was officially announced. I suspect many negative comments were received. I'll get used to the new name over time, but the change was unnecessary. Michigan Public sou...

Why bother carrying Nightly News on a subchannel at all if this always happens? If they decide to preempt it, they shouldn't bother carrying it at all.
They don't appear to have a clue that "this always happens."

Re: TCL TV Advice

Walmart now has a TCL 43" for $176. Budget yes, but the price is great. Maybe 4K would look better on a smaller 43" screen vs a 55" screen. You would probably perceive little if any difference, at least on a set from the same maker. The better "look" people seem to take notice of is that provided b...

YUP, they managed to f*ck this up AGAIN.
YAY, WDIV and Hub Operations.
Still can't find the automation override button.
How hard is this, really??
It's probably in the User Guide.

Coast to Coast AM host Ian Punnett RIP

From the C2CAM site, and announced on air Saturday night: It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Ian Punnett passed away from a brief illness yesterday. His keen intellect and delightful sense of humor will be deeply missed. Since 2000, Ian has, in various incarnations, been a valued ho...

Just heard "Do You Believe in Magic?" used for a Cambpell's Soup commercial.
The original Lovin' Spoonful version?
No. Not even remotely close.

Re: WJOI 97fm 1987

Back in that era there was a subscription music service called Muzak that offices and other businesses would have piped into their establishments. In Detroit WMZK 97.9 was the Muzak station via a sideband from the station also known as SCA radio at 67 or 92 kHz. These may still exist today but the ...

Re: Really MeTV???

Unlike the multiple fiascos a couple of months ago, MeTV (via WDIV 4.3) seems to so far be mostly successful at carrying the Local4 non-football early evening program block(NBC Nightly, Wheel, Jeopardy), a true service for those wanting no part of MSU Football on NBC. There was one ominous cutaway f...

Re: Detroit Public TV moving, current home sold

How much space does 56 really need? This sale has been planned for two years, is it to downsize or actually increase studio space? My guess is they will move back Downtown, assuming tax incentives are adequate. The Foundation is a non-profit, so that's not a factor. There are sites in the city unde...

Re: Detroit Public TV moving, current home sold

IIRC, their building is actually two completely separate buildings, with an 'air gap' of less than 6" in between them. Don't remember the logic of why it was done that way. The building was/is not separate buildings, but the architectural modifications to make the studio spaces do make it effective...

Re: FM reception in the southeast part of the US

Tropo propagation is usually made possible by temperature inversions. Given the usual summertime weather and climate over the Gulf of Mexico and along the U.S. gulf coast, it's not surprising that there will frequently be favorable conditions along the fronts in that area. Similar conditions can be ...

Re: Xfinity is offering Peacock Premium for free to certain subscribers

Until recently, Xfinity subscribers had Peacock Premium (which Comcast owns) available at no extra charge. I didn't then (or now) find any of its content compelling enough to view when it was free, and then zero desire to pay for it. Also, the Peacock app on the Xfinity X1 box was (might still be) a...

There's also ESPN 850 Cleveland (I can't bring myself to call it WKNR  ).
Signal across the lake is sketchy though, sometimes good often not.
