Re: Got My GMRS License

I believe that might be an unlicensed class in Canada. Some FRS radios cover the GMRS band. But I've never heard of any licensing requirement to use it. GMRS is license free in Canada. There are three differences: 1. Radios must be Industry Canada approved. 2. Radio is limited to 2 watts TX. 3. Eve...

Re: Fez from Ron and Fez dies at 57

Fez dealt with a lot of heart issues, and suffered at least two previous heart attacks if memory serves. RIP Fezzie!

Re: Joe Rogan reaches $100 million deal with Spotify

I have the Spotify family plan anyway. The interface is klunky sometimes, but still easier to navigate than Google Play Music. Rogan's move to Spotify also factored into my choice (although his show is available without a paid subscription). That being said, Spotify's podcast interface leaves much t...

Re: Got My GMRS License

Initially I was going to wait until the GMRS license fee dropped to $35, which is supposed to happen sometime, although according to the FCC, it won't be until sometime next year. Decided just to pay the 70 bucks now. Works out to $7 a year, which is more than affordable for something the whole fami...

Re: Edward Asner dies at 91

Correction...Asner played Sauna in "Elf". "The Santa Clause" was, of course, Tim Allen.

Brain fart.

Re: Masks In Michigan

The knockoff masks are marketed as KN-95. I think the mask has to meet certain specification to be branded N-95.

Re: FCC Call Letters

My understanding is that it's first-come first-serve. The licensee who had the calls first holds the rights to them. If another applicant wants calls that are in use for a different medium (i.e. applicant wants FM calls that are in use by an AM station), they need permission from the licensee who cu...

Re: Edward Asner dies at 91

Asner, in addition to playing the Santa character in The Santa Clause with Tim Allen, was the voice of Santa in the Fox animated special Olive the Other Reindeer with Drew Barrymore.

Trivia factoid. Good for cocktail parties.

Re: Edward Asner dies at 91

Old 62 showed Lou Grant a couple of years before the big Fox/CBS switch of 1994. I Haven't seen it on the METV, THIS, Cozi,, etc. He played a cranky neighbor on Modern Family a few years ago. The Mary Tyler Moore Show was a comedy. Lou Grant was a drama with comedic overtones. Ed Asner made Lou Gra...

Got My GMRS License

Finally took the plunge and dropped the 70 bones on the application last week. FCC issued my calls the next day. Got a Radioddity GM-30 5W GMRS with repeater capability. The radio also receives VHF and UHF bands outside the GMRS spectrum, so I can listen to 2M Ham. There are two GMRS repeaters in my...

A Cat In The Cast https://www.perthcathospital.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Fotolia_25697485_M-900.jpg She looks just like our kitty Oliver. Granted ours doesn't have the cast, but he is missing his bottom front teeth. Not sure how it happened, but given that we adopted him from a lady who was...

Re: Ken Jennings as Jeopardy! Host

I was hoping it would be Ken Jennings. Watched a few shows with Mike Richards, and he's okay. Jennings would have been the best choice to carry on the Trebek legacy IMO. That being said, I wonder what the future holds for Ken. He may stick with the Jeopardy staff, although I wouldn't be surprised if...

Re: Waze

I've used Waze for a few years now. I find it to be smoother and a little more resourceful than Google's source navigation app, although that was on an older Android phone (I just recently upgraded to a Motorola Moto E and haven't tried the Google app since). Sometimes it picks a goofy route or mixe...

Re: WCCO Drops CBS Newscasts

I don't see Entercom (now branded as Audacy) dropping CBS Network newscasts from their All-News outlets. WCCO is primarily a Talk station. Although I haven't listened since the change, I would guess that dropping the network news and incorporating national stories in the local TOH newscast has short...
