Re: Townsquare Media
Rochester, MN isn't a big market, #222. It's a very compact market. Rochester proper is around 100000 people. Townsquare dominates that market. They have three translators in the central business and Mayo Clinic area, one for KROC (AM), one for KROC-FM, and one for an outlying FM, KYBA Stewartville...

Re: The Fox soon WCMU
If 45 North owns the WMJZ tower, and if 45 North can acquire the WFDX license without having to assume the lease obligation that NBI currently bears, it *might* make sense for them to purchase the WFDX license at, say, a $250,000 price point. Would not at all discount the possibility that the true ...

Re: The Fox soon WCMU
This is a lot of brainpower trying to ascertain a radio station stuck in the middle of nowhere, that hasn't -- to anyone's recollection -- generated profit from the signal... ever. Non-comm guys these days pay $1 per head when it comes to legit population headcount. That was once an AM's headcount v...

Re: Townsquare Media
Townsquare could be a potential player, but perhaps that's still a longshot. They are spoiled in Lansing where they own the dominant heritage in virtually each format and Grand Rapids is a robust market for all of the players. I don't see iHeart or Cumulus playing ball in TC. In fact, I see the oppo...

Re: License renewal season coming up
My personal predictions for each (which border on pipe dreams in some cases): 750 WARD - License cancelled (it would've been much more valuable if it had landed a translator in the most recent translator window) 92.3 WBNZ - Sold to Synergy Media to simulcast 1450 WKLA and its 92.7 translator 92.5 W...

Re: The Fox soon WCMU
Most of the speculation in the above is assuming the signal can be downgraded and moved. Try this one for size... it can't. It is what it is. One big signal in the middle of the state, with a lofty power bill and tower rental agreement. The only way it can work is if it rolls under an existing opera...

Re: 99.3 returns to the airwaves.
The unbelievable unprofessionalism with some of these people is mind blowing! They probably put it on the air for a necessary period of time, took readings, and submitted paperwork to the FCC to be awarded a fresh 6-month STA, with no intention of it being a viable station anytime soon. But, as som...

Re: The Fox soon WCMU
Other than having to relocate if WFDX finds it impossible to come to an agreement with the new tower owners, I don't see a problem. It's not a situation nearly as daunting as WLAV's, I have discovered. If they have been booted off, there could be an STA until better options are explored. Not sure w...

Re: The Fox soon WCMU
I think 92.5 is outside of the market (it is licensed to Atlanta in Montmorency County), so Midwestern or MacDonald-Garber could buy it If that were true, there would never have been the need for Baraga to buy the spinoff (106.7) from Blarney Stone's original deal with NBI. Boy, that seems like eon...

Re: Henderson Vs Coyne
From different sources, seems like Blarney Stone Broadcasting owns the tower that House's WLDR;So trying to get this straight, Blarney Stone pays to LMA WLDR while Wldr rents out tower space from Blarney Stone? That sounds about right. However, I'd imagine the LMA fees owed are substantially more th...

Re: The Fox soon WCMU
I suspect that the reason hat they can't unload 92.5 easily is that they sold the tower and had their tower rent raised higher than is sustainable, and there are downsides to relocating, like WLAV, being jammed in by other stations, making meaningful relocation difficult. This seems to be an increa...

Re: The Fox soon WCMU
Only one signal was bought by CMU , 94.3. I heard the other two signals (92.5 and 100.5) are going dark. I suspect a lot of those signals may no dark until deals are in place, now KLT and portions of the staff are going to Midwestern. Without a payroll to meet, you might has well apply for STA's an...

Re: WKLT-fm, Kalkaska and WKLZ-fm, Petoskey
Again, bigger no longer means better. While it does mean greater coverage... but to whom? Ratings are less significant when it comes to swaying dollars; so serving communities should become a priority. That 100kw blowtorch means a $30k a year power bill, topped with $18k in tower rent. Add all the ...

Re: 101.9 wldr
I truly miss live, local radio directed at their City of License, instead of this "Where ever you go, we're there, sucking as usual" garbage. Amen to that. Just listen to WUPS sometime. One moment, they are claiming to be Midland, then Mount Pleasant, then they want to be Gladwin, then it's Houghto...

Re: WKLT-fm, Kalkaska and WKLZ-fm, Petoskey
98.9 has a great signal worthy of a mainstream format. It would be a true shame if that great signal is wasted. Classic Hits is stuck on 101.5. Classic Rock (if the KLT simulcast goes away) is stuck on 95.3. Yacht Rock/Soft AC is stuck on 106.3. Classic Country is stuck on 100.7 - a damn translator...
