Re: Thoughts on daily news conferences

I would much prefer that the briefings occur on an as-needed basis; e.g., when there is a significant development to report. To be brutally honest, most of these news conferences are like The Curse of Oak Island : they take a half hour, or even longer, to present 90 seconds' worth of information. It...

Re: Poor production quality during coronavirus

I've been doing a LOT of listening to WTMJ(AM) Milwaukee since my workplace shut down on the 17th, and much of their locally-originated programming has been produced at home studios since around that time. There were more than a few hiccups at first, but they're 99% back to the same high production ...

Re: Covid-19 Case now reported in Northern MI- Be Safe and Cautious Out There!

Has anyone thought about recording news broadcasts, etc.? Might be fun to watch 20 years from now. I enjoy going back and listening to the few tapes I recorded on 9/11. I wouldn't wait 20 years to watch the recordings. I would review them during the next few campaign seasons and note which elected ...

Re: WWV / WWVH

Yup, today's the day. I usually check reception of CHU along with WWV and go with the clearer signal. Some days, none of those signals are audible enough to use. In that event, I just use the clock on my cell phone, which is usually spot-on with the SW broadcasts. Hopefully, the nuisance of DST will...

Re: Farewell Art Van - 300+ stores closing

Art Van Furniture Inc. will close all of its more than 300 stores after struggling with heavy debt and a disrupted furniture and mattress retail landscape under private-equity ownership https://www.chicagobusiness.com/retail/art-van-furniture-close-all-stores-liquidate How do you think this will im...

Re: What Does the Fox Say? Goodbye...

Are either of the two dopey TV news outlets in Northern Michigan paying any f&cking attention to what's happening to the FM dial up there? Hardly a peep from either news department, and they've provided minimal news coverage on the subject for more than a few years now. It is not much of a stretch ...

Re: Unusual DX for me.

Are the highlighted listings new catches for you TC? 1180 KGOL is one I haven't logged. Well done! 750 WSB and 1140 WRVA are usually present when I do a scan. 870 WWL New Orleans, which didn't turn up on your scan, used to be a dependable nighttime catch but has been a tough pull for quite some time...

Is WCMV-FM available? It covers a lot of the same area WCMV (TV) covers
That would make sense.

Note that while WCMZ-FM is in the Sault, WCMZ-DT--which came much later--was in Flint.

Re: WFCX to Central Michigan for $500,000

Assuming CMU will own the tower, I can't help but wonder if there would be added value for them if they launched a CMU Public TV translator from the WFCX site. True, they cashed out Flint's WCMZ-TV in the spectrum auction and didn't bother upgrading the W69AV and W46AD translators to DTV. But, still...

Re: Format swap in Iron River

My initial thought: What took them so long? The area is positively flooded with Country signals: WJNR, WUPY, WCYE, WHDG, as well as other stations providing fringe-area service.

I know exactly who it was and have no idea if he is still employed in broadcast radio or not. I have no reason to believe he's actively participating on this site. His writing style was very discernible. Was just reflecting on the flame wars involving--and the eventual outing of--listenbuddy. Did a...

Re: 101.9 wldr

It's much the same thing on NorthFM. I've heard Naughty by Nature's O.P.P. three times now during maybe four hours' worth of monitoring over a two-day stretch. Isn't North FM supposed to be an Adult Contemporary station? Wow - that's hilarious. The station is even shittier than I first thought! MW,...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Heard an ID on 92.3 just in the last few minutes: "92.3 WBNZ Benzie-Frankfort-Manistee" "Your Hard Rock Authority" maybe Roy gave it to his kid that would be hilarious It certainly sounds like some Gen Xer's iPod patched into the board. The playlist isn't all that deep, either--I'm hearing the same...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Speaking of the Benzie sticks, I heard what sounds like an iPod running music on 92.3 yesterday. I heard "Itchycoo Park" by the Small Faces segue into a song I didn't recognize. When I first heard Itchycoo Park, I thought the 1450/92.7 pair in Ludington were simulcasting on 92.3, until I turned to ...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Just tuned into WLDR's de facto replacement, WWMN 106.3 Thompsonville. The audio is just gross: it's broadcasting in mono, and it sounds to me as though there is an overload, alignment, or lightning-damage issue somewhere along the chain. To their credit, the imaging is more coherent than I'd expect...
