The Most Complete Single Conductivity Study Of Northwest And Northern Lower Michigan

Every 5 degrees from the WTCM site, done by Khanna and Guill going back to 1981 when WTCM moved to 580 and 1984 when they increased from 2.5 to 5 kW, and 1996, when they increased to 15 kW. This is filed with the FCC and is a government document available on line. It goes out (Measured (M) values) a...

Re: WLCO is back

WLCO BOOMS IN near the Straits between Middays and CH. It's too far from WCKY. The E layer is much lower during Daytime Skywave and favors distances less than 250 miles or so. The E layer gets higher as you get closer to SS and SR, and WCKY is favored because it is 50 kW. Since most Canadian AM stat...

Walking In The Rain With The One I Love-Love Unlimited #14 Hot 100 #7 Cash Box Besides the voice of Producer Barry White being on the recording, there is the authentic sound of a rotary dial dialing a phone, and then the sounds of the mechanical switching and the old Bell Telephone large city exchan...

Re: Rain

"I Wish It Would Rain" by the Temptations. This was the second song of a Trilogy written by Rodger Penzabene, written about the stages of a failed relationship. The first was "You're My Everything", the third was "I Could Never Love Another After Loving You". As "I Wish It Would Rain" was bounding u...

Re: Rain

Here's one that has been largely forgotten, even though it reached #10 Hot 100, "Tell It To The Rain" by The Four Seasons. Consider other #10 songs from that era heard every day in many formats, such as "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison. Yup. #10 for ONE WEEK. ONE WEEK IN THE TOP 10! https://www.yo...

Re: Rain

Here's another song, "Rhapsody In The Rain" by Lou Christie, which reached #16 Hot 100. Both "Rhapsody In The Rain" and "Brown Eyed Girl", which also mentions the "days when the rains came", were censored by many radio stations until they overdubbed the relatively mild, in retrospect, taboo referenc...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters

Although the null to the West originally was to protect WHBF/WKBF in Rock Island, IL, WCMR Elkhart, IN and WWCA Gary, IN fit into the pattern so they got good protection. WHBF/WKBF was deleted this year. If the new pattern wasn't so complex, they might have been able to let that null out a little, a...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters

When WTCM 580 was just 800 watts Nighttime (and possibly when they were 500 watts Nighttime), they had a large minor lobe (3.7 kW referenced to legacy minimum efficiency) to the SSW. A LOT of DXers in the Chicago area used to hear it at Night when it was 500 or 800 watts, partly because they used to...

Re: Christmas music 2020

I like the 60s and 70s music on WCHY 97.7. We have Sirius XM in the car, and a bunch of memory banks and when we're up, we had 106.3 on two or three memories for convenience with proximity to other banks without going through them all. I took one off and replaced it with 97.7. We have 106.3 and 97.7...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters

WKZO Night Pattern radiates quite well to the South, like the Standard Pattern legacy minimum efficiency equivalent of about 3.6 kW.

Re: Downriver AM transmitters

The old Night WXYT pattern on 10 Mile Rd. used 165 degree towers, and went as well to the South as to the North. The Nondirectional Day pattern was the equivalent of 8250 watts referenced the the legacy Class B efficiency minimum of 282 mV/m @ 1 kW @ 1 km. https://www.fccinfo.com/image.php?ShowPatte...
