Re: Upcoming: 500 TOH IDs from Fremont, Mich.

I had an old AM BCB SW tube radio that required a long wire antenna to perform well, but it did sound good and it had a 6U5 tuning eye. I guess that got me started on substantial antennas. My Mother got a Sony TRF stage portable radio which received Chicago AMs quite well in Genesee County. Even WCF...

Re: Nestlè Waters - "Flint" spot

Well, after having cloudy water for over a week and being told that it was just "air", and getting GI tract and sore throat symptoms even with filtered water, and being 40 miles from the Flint City Limits, I am convinced that there may be more problems with many water systems than they are willing t...

Re: Upcoming: 500 TOH IDs from Fremont, Mich.

All I can say is, you are missing out with a barefoot receiver. Many of the AM stations were much weaker then like WTMJ and WJBL, WOOD, WJPW, etc. I just scratched the surface from memory. The Chicago AMs came in like locals. Listened to WLS and WIND daily. And I was quite a bit further inland. Almo...

Re: Upcoming: 500 TOH IDs from Fremont, Mich.

Are you using any type of external antenna? This is very impressive for "barefoot" though. A 10 element rooftop FM antenna with a rotator can give you +20 dB over ~6 feet above ground level telescoping whips or dipoles, which is my experience and from the reports of other DXers. You'd be amazed at h...

Re: WRIF 101 47 years and still Rock’n strong

WDAI and WPLJ have not lasted in their 2-14-71 format. That is the effective date of the call letter changes. There are all sorts of disputes about the call letter mixup stories.

Re: 89X Signal

You have to look at the Canadian database (easy on fccdata.org, just click on Canada) to see that they are diplexed and see the patterns. You put in CKLW on the US database, and CIDR on the Canada database.

Re: 89X Signal

I think CIMX and CKLW/CIDR are diplexed into a single antenna, so either there is a problem with the CIMX transmitter or the combiner.

Re: Soft AC to come to Chicago?

Sounds like an attempt to draw ratings from WRME-LP without having to cater exclusively to David Eduardo's Demographics.:)

MeTV FM is the elephant in the room driving Chicago Format changes and tweaks.

Re: 100.7 WITL

When I spent a lot of time in West Central Michigan, WYEZ Elkhart, IN would come in on 100.7 after WBRN-FM signed off, almost every Night. WBRN-FM would sign off, Mark would leave the exciter on while he did production, and turn it off when he left and WYEZ would be right there. I guess it's just th...

Re: TV RF Channel Changes

I don't think they could have translators owned by WJRT's owners. WZZM-TV had a translator in Kalamazoo, W12AP as I recall. And a satellite would be the same as another station in ownership limits. WJRT-TV was on most of the cable systems all the way up to Sault Ste. Marie.

Re: New home for the Cubs: WBBM-780

Well, I think they measured the skywave of WXYT on Day Pattern near Charlevoix, and they were near 10 mV/m at times. That would put the NIF at 200 mV/m, and that wouldn't cover Charlevoix. Even it it were 5 mV/m 10% skywave, the NIF would be 100 mV/m. I speculate that the CBS corporate division offi...

Re: Why did some TV stations move from VHF to UHF in the DTV transition?

Forgot WPBN-TV on 7. This was due to WLS-TV, WOOD-TV, and WPBN-TV all ending up on Channel 7. WPBN-TV was prevented from using more than 500 watts nondirectional from the Harrietta site, so they had to go to UHF and a translator in Traverse City. WOOD-TV was originally analog Channel 7, but went to ...
