Re: Unique Radio Experiences
Hearing Laurie Anderson's O Superman on WRIF's Rock Cafe. Listening to Marquette's WDMJ's brief, (1988/1989) Classic Rock programming. It sounded like no AOR station I will ever hear again, (mostly 70's and 60's, very little 80's, more Van Morrison,Guess Who and Robin Trower than you will ever hear...

Why is Steely Dan's "With a Gun" (a forgotten album track from the Pretzel Logic LP) running in my head right now?

Re: WJR vs. WWJ Fields at Utica, MI
Nicely done. There were no zero nulls, but nulls nevertheless. My understanding is that this plots the field strength in volts relative to the peak field, in this case, 350°. The nulls, primarily protecting Houston and Philadelphia (and saving many stations in the Eastern US from being blown out of ...

Re: WJR vs. WWJ Fields at Utica, MI
I'm wondering if that pattern chart assumed identical towers.
The actual pattern was weaker to the south, and with a distinct "chin" at 170°.

Re: WJR vs. WWJ Fields at Utica, MI
Sadly, I think only two years ago the FCC site still had the full engineering for the Royal Oak Township TL. the basic design can still be seen at fccinfo.com. The two tower array had a one taller Blaw-Knox tower and a shorter Blaw-Knox tower nearly south of it actually in the direction 170° azi. Th...

Re: Anyone else feel the earthquake this morning? (6/10)
Did not feel it at my 6th office in downtown Detroit. Aside from being of slightly lower magnitude, it is a near-perfect reenactment of the earthquake that happened on 1/31/1986 (three days after the Challenger explosion). Of note, the Galesburg Earthquake of May 2nd, 2015, was not only felt, but it...

Right now (1:27 PM Monday) they are presenting "Mr. Ed", but they've squished the 4:3 programming to 1:1!
WTF?

Re: FCC Crackdown On Badly Maintained AM Facilities?
This afternoon (6/6) I was listening to WPON at 10th & Michigan Ave. In Detroit.
It was significantly stronger than I've heard it to date, almost listenable (guessing .2-.4 MV/m).
My guess is that they are on their permitted pattern.

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?
TV... Picked up a station from Nevada coming in over Channel 9 in Windsor, some time around 1980. Was booming in strong for a half hour, then quickly faded away. I haven't even attempted to DX TV since the DTV transition. That's... interesting. Nevada is impossible via tropo in Michigan due to the ...

Re: AM Radio Signal Patterns
Interesting.
I'm able to see the patterns, though I see the error message window as well. It's opaque, but I can move the map around to get around the problem.
