Re: 9/10 news story

That's an awesome story! I love hearing about broadcast history from people who were there.

I wouldn't want to drink eight beers in an entire day, much less for breakfast.
Reminds me of the M*A*S*H episode where Hawkeye went for Rosie's Bar for breakfast and put beer on his Rice Krispies.

Hopefully it's a good value. I'd hate to see them piss their money away.

Re: Linux: who here uses it?

I really should get interested in Linux or Ubuntu. I seen someone talking about Lubuntu. About 2 years ago, I bought an HP laptop with Ubuntu on it. It was for a fundraiser. Someone had some hand me down laptops from where they worked. Donated for the cause, whatever it was. I bought one for $50. T...

Re: MSNBC meltdown

Furthermore, WBAP's segments were in color, as that station was an early adopter of local color, while everything else, including NBC's network segments, were in black and white, as the studios and equipment used were B&W only. Right you are. A&E originally aired the first 4 1/2 hours of NBC covera...

Re: MSNBC meltdown

What you describe reminds me of network TV coverage of the JFK assassination (which is all available on YouTube). The networks were clearly unprepared for such an event, and had to scramble to make things work. Walter Cronkite at CBS had to use an audio booth with a slide to break the initial bullet...

Re: Linux: who here uses it?

Lubuntu is also a good OS for older machines, especially laptops. It's a lightweight derivative of Ubuntu with fewer bells and whistles, but still plenty of features to make it worthwhile, even for beginners.

Re: Dad-To-Be killed by gender reveal device

I blame two factors for fostering this weird phenomena: Reality shows These are just loosely-scripted plays without professional actors. They're designed to appear "real" to the audience although the vast majority of everyday people experience nothing close to the levels of excitement, drama and sus...

Re: Linux: who here uses it?

I use Linux Lite, which is based on Ubuntu. It's user-friendly, has a lot of unique features, and is fairly lightweight as I have it installed on an older Acer Aspire One laptop with limited hardware.

Re: Dad-To-Be killed by gender reveal device

My wife and I opted not to learn the gender of our older son ahead of time. We wanted to be surprised. We did decide to learn the gender our younger son at the ultrasound out of pure curiosity. We mentioned it to family and friends in normal conversation. Never did we consider throwing a party to ma...

Re: So, They're At it Again

You can sprinkle my ashes wherever you want, after I'm gone. Being Catholic, scattering won't be an option for me. Although cremation has been allowed for Catholics since Vatican II, Church doctrine maintains that the remains must be interred. That being said, I plan to be cremated when the time co...

Re: Fox lost January

WGN America has never held a candle to its predecessor simulcast of WGN-TV 9. Prior to the syndex regulations in 1990, WGN was one of a handful of independent "superstations" that provided movies and syndicated programs that were not available in many local markets. With the eventual separation of W...

Re: So, They're At it Again

The Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit is telling the "faithful" they are getting ashes sprinkled on them instead of smeared due to COVID. This year's masquerade of holiness will be a bad-looking case of dandruff. My understanding is that the sprinkling of ashes on the crown of the head is the origina...

Re: Ken Jennings as Jeopardy! Host

Jennings has done well. Most of the guest choices sound horrible (Aaron Rodgers?) Drew Carey has gone from horrible to subpar on Price after 13 years. I still think he’s not the right host for that show. I think Drew has done okay. He was a little rocky at first, but he's managed to make the show h...

I assume the WCCW calls are still in place as WTCM is assigned to 580. Guessing the former is mentioned only in the legal ID.
