Vic, have you tried an external antenna for AM on your SuperRadio? I have a Terk AM Advantage tunable loop antenna and it can often reduce or even eliminate static.
One static-related oddity I've experienced is that after properly grounding my AM antenna setup, it picked up more static than before.
Acceptable registrations in the queue through March 30 at 9:00a ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

Re: Buck Levasseur passed away
Very sad to hear; this ranks right up there with Carl Pellonpaa's passing. I watched Discovering while growing up, living, and visiting family near Escanaba. Great stuff. At least a few episodes of Discovering were also aired on WPBN/WTOM back when they were co-owned with TV6. It brought a big smile...

Scott's Chicken Villa is a Toronto thing. It isn't on the bags here either. We had Scott's Chicken Villa KFCs in Sault Sainte Marie (ON)...used to go to the one on Trunk Road, which is still there--but apparently no longer part of the Scott's empire. They were infamous for their awful French fries,...

Stopped at the Lake City, MI McD's Thursday and also got a maple leaf bag. Sadly, poutine had not been added to the menu.
No mention of Scott's Chicken Villa on the KFC bags I've recently received.

What truly sucks about Tim Hortons here in Michigan is that most of them suddenly stopped 24/7 operation within the last couple of years.
It's a time-honoured Canadian tradition to go to Timmies after the bars close.

Re: Worst-sounding radio stations of all-time.
WMQT (Q107), in the mid-eighties, played maybe a third of its programming off-pitch by a full semi-tone. As a musician with perfect pitch, it was akin to fingernails on a blackboard... WMTE 1340 had a godawful buzz in the audio for its last few of years on the air from Radio Hill. When it was briefl...

Seems like little more than glorified CB. Perhaps, but without the frequent outbursts of profanity, racial slurs, and nastiness. CB traffic in the USA often represents the darkest side of humanity. Note that the OP resides in Canada, at least some of the time... In Canada, if one passes the entry-l...

WC8KCY, based on my experience, most likely that "Mexican" station on 640 was Radio Progreso, a 50K from Havana. It is a music station that broadcasts in Spanish. Back in the 70's it was an easy pull on winter nights in Detroit. Another Cuban blaster was 830 CMCA (Radio Havana, Cuba). It was a full...

Re: Blarney Stone broadcasting opens a Go Fund Me page.
Good luck Blarney Stone, it takes nerve. Like many others on this forum, I've taken some shots at Blarney Stone here as we witnessed their empire-via-LMA collapse right before our eyes. To see the Coynes making a plea for help from listeners on YouTube, however, was very sad. To continue to make sp...

Re: Did 9&10 lay off a Meterologist?
I don't see why they wouldn't still do that though. As for 7&4, I don't understand why they stopped using the WTOM studio as a newsroom and had a place in Petoskey, similar to today. Instead (or maybe in addition) of Gaylord, why not use the building in Cheboygan? Also, 9&10 *could* put something i...

Re: Did 9&10 lay off a Meterologist?
I'm not sure where they all are now, but isn't there someone (from both 9&10 and 7&4) 'stationed' in four different towns now? I seem to recall Manistee, Petoskey, Gaylord, and Cadillac (for 7&4), TC (9&10). Although maybe I'm dating myself a bit and those don't exist anymore. 9&10 also once had a ...

If there's non-WMFN activity on 640 again at sunset, I'll set up an 0150-0310 recording of 640 tonight.

Re: MW DX Tonight
WMFN is easy to ID at the top of the hour, and requires precise antenna orientation with my setup. The non WMFN signal on 640 carried nonstop banda and Salsa music, came booming in at any antenna orientation, was a diffuse and obviously reflected signal, and no announcer ever came on. A Cuban statio...

Re: Great Lakes Reception Maps
I remember Tom Mahoney! Watched him on TV while vacationing in the Esky/Gladstone area and also in Ludington. He was a terrific broadcaster. (I cannot comment on his forecast accuracy, since I only watched his work on a handful of occasions.) What you saw on camera was just a glimpse of an absolute...
