New NCE FM window
There was a new NCE FM (88.1 to 91.9) window that just closed and a bunch of applications have been filed in Michigan. 88.1 (A) Escanaba - Evangelistic Knights of Our Lady (Catholic radio?) 88.1 (C3) Lake City - Full Potential Ministry [tower near Houghton Lake; 60dBu barely includes Lake City] 88.3...

Re: WOUF GGGGGGone!
Only the license was deleted, not the allotment, correct? If my understanding is correct, won't there be an auction for the allotment at some point? Correct. Down the line, an auction will be held. I think 100.7 might be able to move closer to TC, but if that were to happen, WIAA or WTCM-FM would h...

Re: Northern MI radio observations from 10/23 to 10/26
With 100.1 turning its license in, that will allow the new 99.9 to inch a little farther north toward Manistee, especially since that vacant allocation is on 100.7. Upon doing some more research, I think 99.9 could get up to C3 (25kW equivalent) in an area about five or so miles wide stretching from...

I'm surprised they didn't consider country, unless they feel that country would do worse on 105.3 than Alt did. The only country station serving any of the San Francisco area, Class A San Jose-based KRTY, was doing about the same share-wise than Alt 105.3 across the entire Bay Area in its last months.

Re: Pirate on 87.9 Grand Rapids
I remember when 104.9 was home to a fairly strong Spanish religious pirate for quite a while in the mid-2010s. It went off about the same time the two (legally licensed) Spanish religious LPFMs came on the air at 92.3 and 103.7

WSUE is on a different tower than the one that WYSS and WMKD shared before its collapse several years ago. However, WSUE's tower is very short (even shorter than the former WYSS/WMKD tower, which was about 300 feet tall). Since all three are co-owned, I'm a little surprised they weren't on the same ...

Re: Nielsen audio #'s released 9/21
Grand Rapids needs some commercial radio stations to flip because they're getting more boring as time goes on. The first one that should be flipped as I and others have mentioned is "Thunder Country" at 107.3 FM owned by Cumulus. I have said that all they do is copy the more powerful B-93 with the ...

Re: HD Radio in northern Michigan
HD has it's technical coverage limitations, but at -14dBc or -10, the signal just was not designed to cover the 50 dBu area the analog main covers decently. It's not a DX sort of service.....it's rock solid in SE Michigan within 20 or 25 miles of most TX sites. My experimentation with a 2019 Yukon ...

Hot FM should be on 107.3, with 105.3 either remaining Hot FM as a simulcast or moving to country.
Remember 105.3's very brief classic country format after Citadel took over when they were still transmitting from Hart? Hot debuted when 105.3 moved to Fremont a few months later

Re: For all you rubes that thought an "independent" commission was needed
The commission has uploaded some new draft maps. The only thing that's common among all of them is that they fixed that awful UP district. But this one is very different from the first draft, and I really like this one: https://michigan.mydistricting.com/legdistricting/comments/plan/144/23 Who woul...

Re: For all you rubes that thought an "independent" commission was needed
Many thanks for the link. With the exception of Berrien and the small portion of Jackson County allocated to District 7, District 8 covers a series of entire counties that are adjacent to one another. I honestly have no issue with the configuration of District 8. It can be canvassed quite easily vi...
