Re: Please Help Decipher Mystery Word in 910 WFDF Promo

The IBOC Sidebands are there. So Stereo should be possible on the AM signal.

Re: Please Help Decipher Mystery Word in 910 WFDF Promo

Since the last time I checked, the IBOC sidebands around 910 kHz are still there, so I assume it would still be possible to broadcast in Stereo on the AM signal. I'll check for the sidebands later when the skywave starts rolling in. I'll have to check the Accurian when I have access to it.

Re: If You Like Your Car, You Can Keep Your Car?

Progress is rarely easy. Hell, I could be stuck listening to AM radio instead of 60,000,000 songs at my finger tips for $5 a month. Considering that there hasn't been a battery developed for cars without serious problems in the last 100 years, I'm not so sure about progress. Then there's these litt...

With WCML-FM 91.7 off the air, has anyone been hearing WUOM-FM 91.7 in Northern Michigan?

Re: WBKB Partners with UpNorthLive

There's a reason why no one ever built a full power commercial station in Alpena to compete with WBKB. And WBKB is a right sized fill in service for the underserved area. The area would have been OK if the Low VHF analog stations were still around. A 100 kW analog station on Channels 2-6 used to ge...

Re: If You Like Your Car, You Can Keep Your Car?

Considering that EVs present an entirely new set of problems, maximum range without recharging, limited recharging stations, increasing electric consumption and overloading the present grid, EV batteries creating all kinds of new pollution problems, especially disposal, and EVs catching fire and blo...

Re: WBKB Partners with UpNorthLive

Maybe Sinclair wants to buy WBKB. With all four major networks on sub channels, it probably does better than you might think. Remember, Northern Michigan, though large in area, doesn't have that many people. With WBKB's "peanut" shaped directional pattern, serving mainly the Alpena Oscoda Tawas Area...

Re: Ann Arbor Knife Attacks

Imagine thinking low crime means no crime... Again, going back 50 years, there was a peeper exhibitionist who "worked" the garden level rooms in North Campus Dorm buildings, not far from Fuller Rd. According to female victims, he was also statistically near impossibly endowed. Because they could on...

Re: WBKB Partners with UpNorthLive

When WNEM was really on Channel 5, 76-82 MHz, it came in well in the coverage area of WBKB. When WTOM was really on Channel 4, 66-72 MHz, also covered much of the Alpena area. When a bank gave us a little TV to watch in the car and on picnics for opening an account, I remember seeing WEYI and WFUM a...

Ann Arbor Knife Attacks

I just read last week that Ann Arbor is one of the safest cities in the country. Now, a surly, angry man has attacked at least two people with knives after they "bumped in to him". I know the area well from when I was there, Matt. And there was a lot of crime near there even 50 years ago. A friend o...

Re: John Sinclair dies

I didn't agree with John Sinclair on much, but he was a big area radio fan when he was young, and on that I agreed. His recordings of Ernie Durham on WBBC circa 1958, and incidental related historical commentary on area radio, are absolutely classic. I admired him for that, and am sad that he has pa...
