Re: The Ghost Of Bill Kennedy

Thanks websurferdude! I'll try using your info and see what it turns up. The only other celebrity I recall in it was Mel Farr. This was when he was selling cars as "Mel Farr Superstar".

Re: Biggest tech device flops of the past 25 years!!!

I did not know CFCO was still in AM Stereo. What’s your 20 to be able to receive CFCO so well. My 20 is in Blackman Twp northwest of Jackson. It's the SRF-42 that really pulls the stations in on the AM band; FM not so much. It's the only radio I have that receives WION and WOAP from here. The last ...

For a search engine, use Dogpile (https://www.dogpile.com/). I've been using it 20+ years and it finds things when Google hasn't.

Re: Biggest tech device flops of the past 25 years!!!

My Walkman collection is an SRF-39, SRF-49, and SRF-42. The SRF-42 radio is far better than the other two with better DXing and, or course, the AM Stereo feature. The problem with it is the manual tuning dial trying to tune into the center of the signal to get the full stereo sound on AM. Since I've...

Re: The Ghost Of Bill Kennedy

I remember seeing Bill Kennedy in a locally made comedy movie that aired on TV4 (IIRC) back in the 80's. The movie featured many Detroit celebrities and was about the first Thanksgiving feast with the pilgrims and native Americans. I remember both groups sitting together and watching Bill Kennedy. D...

Re: Fixed Frequency AM radios

You had to make me drag them out...lol. Actually I have not had them out for a few years and was thinking about them not too long ago. Both are made by MetroSonix, but no model/serial on them. Both have the manual tuner dial covered, one "The Children's Sonshine Network" and the other with most of t...

Re: Fixed Frequency AM radios

Fixed frequency was also done with FM radios (in the 80's?). I have a couple of them, one for "Sunshine Radio" out of Grand Rapids. There is a switch where you could listen to the normal FM signal or to the SCA off the FM signal.

I cannot recall if AM 1390 in the Lansing area is commercial or non-commercial.
AM 1390 is commercial.

Also, FLR has WUNN 1110 in Mason that gets a decent signal into Lansing.

Re: There's a moderate risk of severe weather today, and...

Something I have mentioned once or twice over the years of being on this board, is tying RDS (on FM) to weather alerts. Within RDS is a traffic feature, when activated, will automatically tune your radio to that station. Why not use this for dangerous weather? I have not ever seen any station use th...

Re: WURO & WUWB

That would be me that reported WURO and WUWB off the air. WUWB went off the air around a year and WURO late summer if I recall correctly. My wife and I had a cottage in Houghton Lake Heights, and had a 40' tower. Both stations came in well. When the cottage was sold in October, both stations were of...

Re: WTWS 92.1 The Twister Off-Air??

Got back to Houghton Lake a few years ago. Seems like there's a WalMart where the WHGR towers used to stand. But at the time, the studio was close by the old location. The original Walmart was at this location. When Walmart decided to carry groceries, many of the stores relocated. Now Tractor Suppl...

WUPS' office is located here as of October 2019 (the last time I drove by) and has been here several years: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.3042731,-84.641747,3a,75y,102.86h,94.89t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sDRcDMiBpUGUF0s8ev1vUyg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 The tower is here: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.289124...

Re: I refuse to wear a mask

Yes, I live in Jackson. I am generally conservative myself, but am strongly opposed to the face covering put upon us by our governor. Indiana is actually closer to me (around 60 miles) than where I work. My 2004 WRX (561k miles) still gets around 30 miles/gallon and with the low price of gasoline (e...

Re: I refuse to wear a mask

Since Michigan (and Ohio) are face covering states, I went to Indiana yesterday to pick up a few 'essentials'. I was in Fremont and then over to Angola before returning home. Not a single person I saw had their face covered. It was nice to see 'normal' again.

Re: I refuse to wear a mask

Yes, you have the right not to wear a mask. However, businesses can legally refuse you service. No masks, no shoes, no shirt, no service. Well, in Michigan, we are supposed to wear one now: "Effective on April 26, 2020 at 11:59 pm: Any individual able to medically tolerate a face covering must wear...
