Re: Source: Cumulus Detroit is for sale...
I got some bottles and cans in my car and garage. I'll make them an offer they can't refuse. I'll pitch in a 30-gallon bag full of cans for your cause, but I want studio naming rights. I doubt it will take much. With that list of markets available, Detroit will likely be at the bottom of the list o...

I remember this show. Didn't realize it lasted only one season.

Re: Bill Harris retiring
I gave Bill and a class he was teaching a tour of our facility some years back. He was most gracious and kind. I remember feeling taken aback some time later when he declined my friend request on Facebook, which in retrospect was petty on my part, and a reason why I don't engage in social media anym...

Re: Earle Robinson passes
I worked with Earle in my first job at WDTB (now WXLA) back in 1983. A true gentleman and icon of Lansing radio! My prayers and condolences to his family.

Re: The Ax Falls: 2019 Network TV Cancellations
I rarely have those problems with a rooftop antenna, although I understand there are folks who are not in a position where they can have one due to living in an apartment or other considerations. I also have a Roku, and it certainly has its advantages, but I can't see paying $5/month for CBS when I ...

Is that why half the country has a panic attack when YouTube goes down for 10 minutes?

Re: Cumulus makes a major sale!
I stand corrected. Didn't realize EMF was operating such major market stations as cross-country repeaters. Might make sense from an overhead standpoint, but people in these markets at least want traffic and weather.

Re: Cumulus makes a major sale!
I'll venture a guess that the new programming will be along the lines of EMF's Christian Hot AC Air 1 format, with at least some local talent. The music would sound similar to WPLJ's current format, albeit with different artists and lyrics. It might serve to retain part of WPLJ's existing audience b...

Re: WUNN To Move To AM 1100
I go with typo. WUNN is kind of an afterthought for Family Life Radio. LikelyI the only reason FLR keeps it running is to maintain the Lansing FM repeater on 99.9. I'd be surprised if AM 1110 has any measurable audience these days, especially with the big footprints WUGN and WUFN provide. There's no...

Re: Fun piece on WILS turning 70
Sentry Insurance HQ is in Stevens Point, as was the HQ of Sentry Broadcasting and flagship AM/FM of the group at the time. Don Colby retired as president of Sentry Broadcasting in early 1985. My understanding was that Sentry made the simultaneous decision to divest the company of all non-insurance s...

Re: Fun piece on WILS turning 70
Depends on when in the 80's. Edwin "Red" Byrd was the principal owner until 1983 when the station was sold to Sentry Broadcasting. His daughter Susan Harvey was the general manager. Northstar Broadcasting, a company formed by Charlie McLravy and Greg Capogna, purchased the station from Sentry in 198...

Re: A CBS News anchor shake-up could be in the works
Viewers are creatures of habit, and most habits are formed in our younger years. Baby Boomers grew up with Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley at 6:30. Chet, David and Uncle Walter are long gone, but the routine remains.

Re: Deleted Users?
I guess I don't understand the logic deleting one's own user account. Seems like it would make more sense to just stop posting with that screen name and let it be. I believe M.W. goes periodically reviews the user accounts list and purges those that have gone dormant from the database (i.e. not mad...
