Re: City of Grand Haven evicts WGHN-FM from tower due to lease violations

It appears that WMPA fixed their transmitting issue with the necessary equipment now installed and returned to their licensed power at the start of this week. It was nice to have the open frequency in all the time it lasted, though it's still possible to hear things beside the new signal, just far m...

Re: I'm Out of Beer...

The funniest thing is if you check 101.3 The Brew on Facebook, last I looked, it was still active and being updated daily with stories. 🤣 Talk about complete cookie cutter corporate radio… I could see how someone could go to the new Facebook page of the station and assume it was a brand new format....

Re: Will Cumulus be Selling Any GR Stations?

Strong inversions can cause this. There have been these a bit more often lately with a prevailing east wind over the lake, creating upwelling of colder waters (and cooling the air in lower levels), and warmer than normal air flowing over the top. This can enhance signal conductivity for anything we...

99.9 WHCH on the air

WMOM had been advertising a special announcement coming Monday at noon, which was quite clearly about 99.9 given the fact my comment about the frequency on their Facebook post was quite promptly deleted to keep their surprise alive. And it looks like at least one person here got the WHCH calls as Ho...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29

97.5 has been broadcasting at 6kw for a few weeks now already. Their signal went from poor in Fremont to dominant perhaps two weeks ago or more. When I first noted that it was really strong, I checked and saw the 6kw info. Heck, looking at my browsing history, I looked it up on April 3rd, so it may ...

Re: EMF acquires WTSS Buffalo and WLFP Memphis from Audacy

Combined selling price: $15.5 million. Star 102.5 is a 100 kW signal with great ratings in Buffalo. If that brand vanishes, it's a testament to the horrible state of affairs of the AM/FM ecosystem. 110kw actually, and in the high hills at that. They get out well and it's a big win for EMF. Sad day ...

Re: What Does the Fox Say? Goodbye...

I notice that phenomenon with WRVM 102.7 Suring, WI showing up all over the place in Michigan, from a somewhat inland transmitter location, and from WIXX 101.1 Green Bay, WI, which is closer to Lake Michigan. I know the Chicago Skyline Fata Morgana in Berrien County has come up here before, and I k...

Re: What Does the Fox Say? Goodbye...

Longley Rice prediction shows that the shoreline areas are generally terrain shadowed, as expected for an inland transmitter location. Nationwide and beyond, the population is concentrated in those low lying areas that are shadowed. https://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=5034baf88674468c9ea3...

Re: What Does the Fox Say? Goodbye...

92.5 actually has one of the best signals for covering a wide area in northern Michigan. When I lived in Manistee, it usually came in better than 98.9 WKLZ, 105.9 WKHQ, or 106.7 WKPK/WSRT Gets out well in general. Here is their reception along the coasts as a general idea of where the signal goes a...

Re: Bomb Threat at WWMT

I sent them a firmly-worded yet still polite e-mail a few weeks ago for the fact they have more than once cut off the last minute of game shows like Jeopardy by adding an extra minute of commercials at the end of the hour, therefore you don't see the final results of the show you've spent a half-hou...

Here is part of a post that the Strong Tower Radio network sent out to its listener/supporters a few days ago: "The Grand Haven Strong Tower Radio station 93.1fm returned to the air (earlier this month) but at reduced power and therefore reduced coverage; until we can receive a device to filter unu...

Re: City of Grand Haven evicts WGHN-FM from tower due to lease violations

It'll also improve conditions at the beach as both 92.1 and 93.1 now broadcast from a few miles inland instead of right next to the beach It surely will, though perhaps not as much in Grand Haven, but for sure up and down the lakeshore where both stations can be rather annoying. It will probably ta...

Re: City of Grand Haven evicts WGHN-FM from tower due to lease violations

93.1 is back on the air with Strong Tower now. I'm not sure what day they appeared on the air once again as I haven't paid very close attention - as a DXer, there is little reason to tune in until April - but it was certainly turned on quite recently. The signal is poor, much like WGHN, but is worse...

Re: City of Grand Haven evicts WGHN-FM from tower due to lease violations

WGHN has come back on the air from a tower five miles further inland in Spring Lake. I don't check the radio quite as often during the winter, so while I believe it came on in the last day or two - I noticed a station with similar power yesterday that didn't sound like Hillsdale - it may have been a...
