Re: Guitarist Vincent Bell dies at 84

Vinnie Bell Obituary and Biography. Very interesting. Made a custom electric sitar for Jimi Hendrix! Les Paul begged him to reveal how he did his watery guitar sound!

Re: Fillings

You can make an AM radio detector with two aluminum pie plates separated by wax paper. It's essentially a capacitor. There is a mechanical force on the plates proportional to the electric field. As an AM signal changes in amplitude, it vibrates the pie tins at the audio frequency. Again you have to ...

Re: Detroit station creating a disturbance in Ontario?

While sum products like 2A+B potentially create problems, 2A-B products are generally more problematic. If you ever tried to wing it building amplifiers and oscillators for VHF and low UHF without spurious suppression, they can have very dirty outputs that will cause a wide band desensitization of n...

Re: Guitarist Vincent Bell dies at 84

He was on scores of hit records as a session musician. He invented the Electric Sitar. Whereas Ravi Shankar was Theoretical Sitar, Vinnie was Applied Sitar. Here's probably his most animated appearance on Electric Sitar. "She's A Heartbreaker" by Gene Pitney. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ePI3RFk...

Re: 102.7 K-Love is now broadcasting from Oak Park

I wonder what the closest first adjacent Class Bs in the nation are. These are around 37 miles apart. The fully spaced distance is 105 miles according to Section 73.207.

Re: WWJ signal problems?

Maybe someone could paste an audio file of this interference.

Interference does wipe out the digital signal, and lessens the effective service area.

Re: WWJ signal problems?

My experience is that WFDF and WWJ are nearly exactly the same strength North of Bay City, when both are operating with full power. WJR is a little stronger by the time you get to West Branch. It's hard to believe WTKA is that strong up there. There have been some unusual skywave conditions in the e...

Re: Foxy 101 WFXZ Pinconning Music Survey 1985

I checked the searchable data from the chart, and the "D" is shown as "--", which would be an unpreviewed debut. The previewed debuts are usually shown as "PH" (Pick Hit) or "HB" (Hit Bound) in the LW column when they enter the numbered chart positions. Do you have a stash of Foxy 101 Surveys? I was...

Re: WILZ Tim Brandow mistake??

Just to add to the Timothy mix, there was also a Tim Hawkins at WQLZ 105.1 Cheboygan in the late 1980s as I recall. His real name is Tim Pulice, and he later joined WDET. He took over Frantic Ernie Durham's Saturday Night Rhythm and Blues show for a while after Ernie D passed away in 1992. He has si...

Re: WILZ Tim Brandow mistake??

Is Tim Brandow related to Jay Brandow? I know John Brandow from some Continuing Education dinners. Jay's cousin as I recall. Had a great chat about pop groups and songs. They’re brothers John plays guitar too as I recall. Seems like he knew a bunch of local recording artists. Moved on to computer p...
