Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit

DON'T DO IT! I bought one from Best Buy last year and it didn't work. Second that. It is a UHF-only design. Thank you, it was already shipped, but I was able to cancel the order in time; it is returning to Amazon. A credit card refund will be forthcoming. Now, I'm not in a position to spend big buc...

Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit

When I lived in the city of Warren, I had an indoor amplified antenna (in addition to cable) connected to a TV in the basement. Perhaps it is only a random coincidence, but in my case, I actually received the best signal from WJBK with the dipole rods extended only about ten inches. Bottom line - d...

Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit

What face of the building is his apartment on? West Vernor and W Grand Blvd (conozco bien) is urban, but not that dense. If he's on the south face, the longer waves (WJBK is actually VHF 7) and lower ERP (27kW) could be a problem. However, multipath is not as severe at VHF. Try an amplified indoor ...

Re: Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit

Thank you for the replies. Moving the antenna to the second floor isn't a reasonable option for him; we'll see what happens with a new indoor antenna.

Wow! :eek I haven't heard, or even thought of that name since forever!

BTW, my local Speedway has a Krispy Kreme cabinet display. I partake quite often.

Can't Get WJBK Off-Air in SW Detroit

My uncle has an old analog 24-inch TV with an external digital converter and an old ( really old!) external rabbit ears antenna with one ear lopped off. He gets all the Detroit local stations and their associated sub-channels just fine except for WJBK Fox 2, even after three scans. He lives in south...

"Colorado" - Danny Holien

Haven't heard it on ANY radio since I first heard it -- once -- in the '70s. YouTube is great!

Re: Top 10 Groups or Artist You Can’t Stand

1. Rush. More chops than a butcher shop and zero soul. I sometimes just want a groove I can chair dance to, which this band couldn't provide upon pain of death. Geddy's voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Bingo! Deep Tracks plays them entirely too much; when they do I hit another button...ANY butt...

Apple iPhone XR

It's been awhile since I've been blown away by a commercial, but this one rivals Apple's famous one-off 1984 introduction of the MacIntosh during the Super Bowl for sheer spectacle and a cast of thousands!

Re: Golden Tate gets the last laugh!

As to Eric Ebron I have no answer as to why he can now catch the football but he sure didn't/couldn't in Detroit. If you watched him play this weekend you'd see he was the same player; i.e., he'd drop as many as he caught. He was certainly targeted in the end zone this year which accounts for his n...

Re: The most unpardonable sin in Detroit sports over the past decade. Your nominee please?

My nomination would be the Tigers spending every last prospect and innumerable dollars on "winning it all now"...and not winning! An offshoot of this would be the hiring of a rookie manager (Brad Ausmus) to lead a veteran-laden team. I know some place the blame on Dombrowski, but I still believe Mr ...

Re: The Friendly Giant and Mr. Dress Up

I never missed The Friendly Giant! "Look up, waaaay up!" :)

This was definitely during the RKO General days.

I don't remember Mr. Dressup, but do remember the French tutelage program Chez Helene paired with The Friendly Giant in the same half-hour.
