Re: Proof that most stock analyst reports are suitable as bird cage liner and little else

I had heard that SVB Bank was intending to hold those long-term treasury bonds to maturity. Since they were purchased during the recent era of ultra-low interest rates, they dropped precipitously in price during the more recent rapid rise in rates. However, it's been said the bonds weren't marked-t...

Signature Bank, based in New York, an institution about half the size of Silicon Valley Bank, was closed today by the Fed: https://www-cnbc-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2023/03/12/regulators-close-new-yorks-signature-bank-citing-systemic-risk.html?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQIUA...

Re: Proof that most stock analyst reports are suitable as bird cage liner and little else

Absolutely right, TC Talks. The credit risk reporting practices of SIVB need to be thoroughly scrutinized. Their loan book doubled in nearly two years. It's highly unlikely they had the credit risk monitoring apparatus in place to proficiently monitor credit risk trends on a client by client basis w...

Re: Ted Cruz slammed the IRS over its proposed tip reporting program

We do agree that fast food has no business having a tip jar by the drive thru window or register. I agree with this, too. When I order a pizza online for carryout (not delivery) and am asked to tip, I get annoyed. If I'm using a great coupon where my order is 50% off regular price, fine. But don't ...

Re: Proof that most stock analyst reports are suitable as bird cage liner and little else

The cannabis industry got oversaturated with producers. I also question the business chops of some of the people involved in that industry. Significant consolidation will occur in that industry. Getting back to SIVB, I think the economic ripple effect could be greater than many are anticipating. Rok...

Re: AM radio sound clarity on car radios

GM produced some cars with excellent AM fidelity on the 2000s. I had a Saturn - which really was a rebadged Opel but assembled domestically - with outstanding AM reception ability and wideband audio. No, it didn't have AM stereo, but voice on AM sounded almost as good as FM. My 2006 GMC Envoy also h...

There's no way this YouTuber is not at least 100 lbs overweight.

He's got over 50,000 subscribers, though. Must be doing something right.

Depends what offers the FDIC receives from other super regional (or larger) banks to acquire SIVB's accounts.

Re: Well, someone has to bring up college basketball...

MSU is a damn good home team and a mediocre road / neutral site team. I suspect they'll be a 7 seed in the big dance. I think there's an even money chance they'll win the opening round game. I predict they'll lose in the round of 32 unless they are fortunate enough to face a Cinderella team coming o...

Proof that most stock analyst reports are suitable as bird cage liner and little else

I present to you the case of Silicon Valley Bank, the second largest U.S. bank failure in U.S. history, which occurred Friday when the institution was officially placed under FDIC receivership: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/10/silicon-valley-bank-is-shut-down-by-regulators-fdic-to-protect-insured-dep...

Re: Granholm praises China

How does she still have a job? (I think I already know the answer to that question.)

Who is more incompetent - Granholm or Buttigieg? It's a coin toss, in my view.

Re: Well, someone has to bring up college basketball...

Michigan down the stretch of the regular season offered multiple choke jobs and the game against Rutgers a couple days ago was completely humiliating. Juwan Howard deserves to be on the hot seat after this year's sluggish finish; a repeat performance next season ought to be worthy of termination of ...

Thanks for that info.

Even more historically snow-less than I had thought. :)

We're making up for lost time this month on the snow side.

Re: Major snowstorm brewing

February was indeed a top 10 warmest for Detroit, if I remember correctly. It was also one of the 25 least snowy. I'm happy to say today's system wasn't that bad over here. Probably 4 inches fell over the course of the storm, but by mid morning, some of the snow on the ground already began melting. ...

Re: Lawmakers eye Michigan gun reforms

But, people driven to commit suicide are going to use other means to do so. Only a fraction of firearm suicides would be prevented. I don't know if that is a safe assumption or not. Other methods of taking one's life might have a lower chance of being lethal and are probably more likely to inflict ...
