Re: Impressive share for WISN

Glad Milwaukee still has a very healthy AM presence that Chicago and Detroit used to have and have lost (save for one AM in each market). WLS with shares of 1, likewise WJR going from double digit shares to 'has been' even during an election year. It may help that the strip of land within about 40 ...

Re: How Many Of You Played "The Chipmunk Song" 45 At 33 RPM?

45/33 1/3 is approximately 5 half steps. or a musical fourth interval. If 33 1/3 was played at 16 2/3, it would be an octave lower.

...I mean the HD-7000R.... If the thing in the middle is... The image is really very low resolution. I don't understand what "the middle" refers to. It looks to me like one or two elements are lengthened and there is a joint of some kind. I cannot offer any inference about what that joint is. This ...

Re: Fixed antenna for CICO & CBET

What are the devices in the center of each side of the Low VHF dipole? Center loading? Capacitance coupling? Explain if you can what that does in this case. Which of the antenna suggested to the OP to receive CICO or CBET are you talking about? I'm sorry. I mean the HD-7000R, pictured in my previou...

Re: Recording Artist And Band Names That Mention Fruits And Vegetables

It seems like since The Smashing Pumpkins fell out of favor, there has been less vandalism of smashing pumpkins at Halloween. That's a good thing.

Re: Fixed antenna for CICO & CBET

I called Winegard a couple of months ago and asked the technical department if they had any new designs. They said no. On the new topic of revised antenna designs: With the repack, the UHF TV antenna could be optimized for the narrower band. With only Channels 14 to 38, a new antenna could be desig...

Re: Fixed antenna for CICO & CBET

Circular and Elliptical polarization signals lose usually the Vertical polarization component when they encounter a knife edge terrain obstruction and change handedness on reflection.. While light is incoherent and randomly polarized and radio waves are coherent and polarized, in most other ways the...

Re: Northern Michigan Radio Is Abysmal

In the 1980s, you could get it near the Straits with a good outdoor directional antenna and rotator. Not sure now now due to all the additional NCE-FM stations. It was only 150 watts then, on 90.9 MHz. It's amazing what you could do back then with a good receiver and antenna. http://licensing.fcc.go...

Re: Fixed antenna for CICO & CBET

I don't know which comment you are referring to, but when I said "free" gain, I just meant it didn't cause thermal noise. I didn't mean the gain was useless. In fact, it's much MORE USEFUL than preamp gain. There are almost no really weak signals that can be pulled in with an added preamp, many more...

Re: Fixed antenna for CICO & CBET

They actually did come up with antennas that were Log Periodic, V Shaped Log Periodic, and combined design Log Periodics with High VHF directors to increase the gain and improve the pattern, that were close to the performance of the "713" designs, and even single channel VHF Yagis. So sometimes you ...
