Re: The Opera Thread

Ever since Apocalypse Now came out Wagner's Ride Of The Valkeries could be my favorite piece of opera, (even though since WWII Wagner doesn't have the best reputation.) That's as powerful as any heavy metal.

Re: Then, there's this.....

This doesn't have anything to do with local news but it's still very funny. On Quiz Central one of the questions was "who had the slogan I Like Ike?" One kid answered Ike Turner.

Re: Network programming preemptions by individual stations
I'm already getting "shipped" confused with whatever new meme/slang is out there these days.
I didn't know if "Shipped" is a popular word for the subject. Re: Network programming preemptions by individual stations

I think way back in the mid 70's WKBD used to show SNL, which was bumped by Then WWJ, (this has been discussed before.) I think the first time I saw it was on 50, (OJ Simpson hosted.) I also remember seeing Ray Charles and jumping on the bed at the same time, (not a bad memory considering.)

Re: Detroit/Toledo Big Three schedule for 12/10/1980

NBC had a couple of good shows, but they were gone by 1980. The Rockford Files was over in 1980. The Wheel mysteries ended in 1977. Columbo ended in 1978, (but came back in 1989 on ABC.) The only other shows I can think of is SNL, (which imploded in 1980 after Lorne Michaels left) and The Tonight Sh...

I've never heard of Benny Hill being aired during a daytime slot, (too many women losing their clothes.)

Re: Detroit/Toledo Big Three schedule for 12/10/1980

Until Hill Street Blues and Cheers came along a coule of years later NBC was kind of lost. Al Franken used to make light of this on SNL, (A Letter To The Lamo / Fred Silverman.)

Bewitched 9;30 AM WDIV The next month Bewitched moved to an earlier time, I think around 6:00am. This afternoon they had a report on Adam Levine's new Tattoo, (to be fair it was a pretty big tattoo, almost Henry Rollins sized.)

Re: Network programming preemptions by individual stations

If you have on demand preemptions aren't really such a big problem. The one exception is Jeopardy which never shows up On Demand. (I started a thread a few years ago on the topic, the reaction was mixed.)
