Re: Environment Canada to end weather radio.

Weather radio still seems quite important to me. I don't leave my cell phone on at night but still want weather warnings. I figure during the day, I'm probably going to notice a severe storm coming in, but not necessarily at night. Therefore, I keep a weather alert radio in my bedroom. There's defin...

Interesting, thanks for the recordings! I kind of like their mix of music, though I'll agree its not hard rock. (but then again, I like WQON's mix, too!)

Re: WWTV: 9.5 = QVC & 9.6 = HSN

I wondered what they were up to when they added 9.5 and 9.6. So what's in it for WWTV? Do they get some kind of kickback from QVC and HSN?

Re: Fox 33 Newscast

Nice! Thanks for posting. I've been looking for a recording of their broadcast from that era for a while now. So glad to finally have a recording of Jim Kosek on Fox 33!

Re: Is radio relevant anymore in a crisis?

I am disappointed at the lack of local, timely news on the radio. This seems like a good time for radio to shine, but they don't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary. I'm not aware of any specials, extended news broadcasts, etc. Maybe the ad revenue just isn't there and stations just don't ...

Re: Covid-19 Case now reported in Northern MI- Be Safe and Cautious Out There!

Has anyone thought about recording news broadcasts, etc.? Might be fun to watch 20 years from now. I enjoy going back and listening to the few tapes I recorded on 9/11.

Re: Covid-19 Case now reported in Northern MI- Be Safe and Cautious Out There!

In other news, TV anchors now sitting (or standing) further away from each other during newscasts... I noticed that, too. Thought that was kind of silly. Those anchors have been together all along, and probably share facilities at the station, etc. But, maybe its good to set a good example on the a...

It was indeed at 4 pm. Had the radio on at 3:00 and it was still country. Got back in the car at 4:20 and it was KLT!

Re: School closings on local radio

If there are, say, a handful (or maybe as many as a dozen) school closings, they should be read on the air. If there are a lot (for instance, two-thirds of the schools in the station's massive coverage area), the air talent should name the counties where school closings exist and direct listeners t...

Re: School closings on local radio

There were two more that weren't closed; Boyne City and Charlevoix. It would be nice if they could say something like "All schools in Antrim, Grand Traverse, and Kalkaska Counties are closed. Plus East Jordan." or something like that. But that would require that all schools participate and call in t...

School closings on local radio

My day job is in the office at a local school district. We were just notified by Mike Sinclair at WTCM Radio that they are no longer listing school closings on the air. He said that not enough schools call them with closings and they didn't want to air a partial list. I'm not sure if this just affec...

Amen to that, too. Live and local is what keeps me listening to the radio. Its what best differentiates radio from streaming sources (both music and podcasts).

Re: 9&10 New Graphics Package

I agree regarding the weather maps over the black table. I don't blame them for trying it out, but I can't say I'm crazy about it. I don't see what value that adds to their weather forecast. Does it help me understand the forecast or is it just supposed to make me say "oooh, look what they can do?"

Re: 101.9 wldr

Where are all the sympathetic posters Who Loved all radio stations? They've all gotten very quiet. I love WQON's format. I've heard many songs on WQON that I've never heard anywhere else but that I love hearing now. While I love their format, I can't vouch for how they are running their business or...
