Re: Ian Thomas Band-Pilot

Used to hear this on the old Classic Gold 630 CFCO, along with some of Thomas's other material (including his lone U.S. Top 40 hit, "Painted Ladies"). It only reached #83 on the Canadian RPM chart in 1979 but he had three Canadian Top 40 hits to his credit at that point and would have six more (incl...

Re: Could AM800 simulcast on 88.7???

Rogers does this in Ottawa with 1310 CIWW and 101.1 FM (CJET). They killed off a long-running Country format (although it started on a different frequency) to bring the CityNews brand to FM.

Re: 102.5 serving Hillsdale and Adrian to flip to K-Love or Air1 soon

Once again, EMF dusts off an old Knorr Broadcasting call sign. Radio historians will note that WKMH were the original calls of what became Keener 13 WKNR in Dearborn/Detroit (1946 or '47 to 1963). Until not long ago, the K-Love in Flint had the calls WKMF (originally on 1470 in Flint).

Re: Gaylord tornado 1 year later

The scars were still very much evident when I went up in February. You could easily trace the path of where the twister went through the city.
My uncle lives near Johannesburg and the tornado went well north of there, so fortunately he wasn't affected. He didn't even lose power.

Re: WLEN Adrian

It's unpolished, a lot of automation screw-ups especially after midnight, but I find that part of their charm. I started listening when I lived in Saline, and now that I live in Whitmore Lake, their signal is a rimshot at best but I listen when I can. I even had a jock give me an on-air shout-out af...

YTV (the Canadian equivalent of Nickelodeon) also reran it in the network's early years.

He was at WMUZ doing interviews back in the day with the morning show. Kind of shocked to see this.
That actually doesn't surprise me given WMUZ's far-right orientation.

Re: March Ratings Yet to Come

The River just runs Townsquare's corporate soft AC playlist, which isn't exactly bringing home the bacon elsewhere. 96.1 The Breeze in Buffalo recently dumped it to tweak back to mainstream AC and Albany's Breeze does even worse than GR's. (During the Christmas season, The River runs the same playli...

Re: EMF acquires WTSS Buffalo and WLFP Memphis from Audacy

And the changes continue, with 101.9 Kiss FM and Rock 103 swapping frequencies. Kiss shifts to Hot AC and Rock 103 (102.7) becomes Rock 102 in the process. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/251704/iheart-downgrades-rock-103-memphis-to-101-9-relaunches-kiss-fm-on-102-7-with-hot-ac-shift/?fbclid=IwAR...

Re: 107.7 KWXS dumps CHR For Standards

It's getting less and less attractive to be the #2 (or lower) hit music station with the CHR demos abandoning radio. That said, it does surprise me that they chose Adult Standards, though the Local Radio Networks format sounds great. I would have expected some kind of AC.

And the changes in Memphis continue... Q107.5 has been resurrected as an Adult Top 40, after three years of Classic Hits on WHBQ.

Re: Should Rhythmic AC get another shot in the D?

A format like that, or something along the lines of WKTU in New York, might be good for 96.3, which has been struggling to stay relevant. I know I'd listen. https://ktu.iheart.com/music/recently-played/ As for 93.1, I'd move it to the Country equivalent of that format, something like Star Country up...

Re: Classic aircheck from WGRD in January 1995

Mellencamp had just had a major CHR hit with his remake of Van Morrison's "Wild Night." He'd have a few more, including one more Top 10 CHR radio hit with "Key West Intermezzo" in '97. The impression I got of WGRD during the '90s is that they seemed to be a mirror image of whatever WHYT in Detroit w...
