Rate This, the only problem with your comment is DTE has minimal competition in its market territory. Sure, there's solar, but that involves a completely different delivery method (installing ugly solar panels on one's roof).
DTE has monopolistic power and should be regulated accordingly.

Re: Is DTE's ad $$$ influencing local media coverage of power outages?
The gas and electric businesses are not separate publicly traded companies, so yes, that earlier number from me is for the fully consolidated enterprise. In essence, we are "taxed" about five percent on our DTE bills so that they can turn around and pay dividends. I am unsure how that compares to ot...

Have you tested your in home internet download speed recently? Just curious if the issue resides with Sling or with your WiFi internet signal.

1.3 million gas customers for DTE. So, the annual dividend to customer ratio is nearly $200 for DTE. About five percent of their annual energy revenue goes out the door to pay dividends.

Re: Is DTE's ad $$$ influencing local media coverage of power outages?
In 2021, they paid out nearly $4.00 in dividends per share. They have over 193,000,000 shares outstanding. I was being a bit conservative when I used $700 million as my estimate. You are right about my second number being wrong. I meant to say ~$300 per year per utility customer. Sorry about that. S...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV
Brandon Roux of WDIV when he wrote his online forecast 5 or 6 hours ago actually forecasted "partly sunny skies by late afternoon." While cloud ceilings are higher than yesterday and cloud thickness isn't quite as bad today as yesterday, to actually forecast "partly sunny" seems like a big gamble to...

I think the amount of money they are reserving for said purpose is too small, km1125.
Perhaps DTE shouldn't be paying out approximately $700 million a year (!!!) in dividends to its shareholders. That's the equivalent of ~$3,000 per year per utility customer.

Totally understand it's an FM translator and not an LPFM. That's why I said "right ballpark" as opposed to "you hit the nail on the head."

I'd certainly choose the LAV show over the stale, unfunny show found on GRD.

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV
Given the fact both WLAV and WFGR witnessed big ratings gains simultaneously, I cannot help but wonder if panel turnover factored into the rises seen at each station. https://ratings.radio-online.com/content/arb127 That said, I agree with you that there is little reason to upset the apple cart for a...

Re: Toledo has a new radio station.
Tiny signal; station will be a flop even if the music sounds halfway decent. Those of you who predicted Andrew Z would reappear on an LPFM were in the right ballpark.

Re: I've been enjoying Alt 98.7
Sadly, CKUE seemed to lose its way around the time it moved from 94.3 to 95.1. Also, the placement of a booster signal on 95.1 FM in Windsor really fucked with listening ability on this side of the border (unless downriver or in downtown Detroit). In southern Macomb County, all the two signals did w...

Re: Is DTE's ad $$$ influencing local media coverage of power outages?
What DTE ought to be doing is putting aside a portion of revenue received each month into a sinking fund that can be used to support infrastructure repairs & investment. In fact, this should be mandated under state law. If DTE is incapable of handling that task, then perhaps the state needs to add a...

The all 90s weekend on WNYL in New York has featured some darn impressive selections:

I feel like the effort at 98.7 remains half assed.

Re: I've been enjoying Alt 98.7
Great points. Greta Van Fleet perhaps should've been featured, too. Although more of a traditional Rock band, their debut single did receive substantial airplay at Alternative. Also agree regarding the CanCon. No Our Lady Peace, Tragically Hip, or Billy Talent in the playlist? Big thumbs down from me.
