Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
"Uncle Paul" Harvey was a favorite in Big Rapids on WLAV-FM back in the day. Students in the high rise dormitories may have been able to hear it pretty well.

Re: WLCO Lapeer, off the air
Looks like they were 500 watts Directional to protect WCKY CH, and when they moved, they went 500 watts Nondirectional and 250 CH Nondirectional.

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
Got a little distracted by car trouble last evening, here's my take on LAV's signal range. In the city of Big Rapids, Ferris State campus area, not really listenable. Knew it was LAV, my RDS wasn't saying so. Several miles south, where Old 131 approaches the Muskegon River, patchy, stereo light fla...

There would be no simulcast restriction for WMKT 1270 either.

Re: WLCO Lapeer, off the air
No, it gets its CH protection from the DA. Otherwise, it would have to go down to less than 250 watts (WYGR is a little farther from WCKY and is only 250 watts CH).

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
I printed it all out again including the old Section 73.213 and it looks like they were, though short spaced, in the full 50 kW power zones toward WKCQ (80 miles) and WJLB (125 miles), but in the 20 kW Zone toward WSDM/WLUP/WCKL. I got to thinking about WJLB and WKCQ needing no short spaced agreemen...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
The History Cards don't show much past 1980. But I think they backed out after the CP was issued. http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=81091 Although they had a couple applications, CPs, and Extensions for 30 kW DA, it is not clear whether th...

Re: MacDonald-Garber's son gets full control of WKAD
Only thing that may make sense is a simulcast of WMBN.

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
WGRD-FM is short spaced to WCKL, WKCQ, and WJLB. Under the old Section 73.213 rules, they could run 20 kW/500 feet, 13 kW at their HAAT, nondirectional. They did apply to go to 30 kW DA. I don't know how far it got. J.J. Duling said that they were concerned about Kalamazoo. They may have done modeli...

Re: 105.5 WBMI goes silent
I just checked, the HAAT of WBMI in the general direction of WWCK-FM extends the 37 dBu F(50,10) contour 10.2 km over the 100 meter HAAT reference. Add that optimized mounting that might favor West Branch by a few dB, and a composited DA pattern that might decrease WWCK by 1-2 dB from the 25 kW ERP,...

Re: 105.5 WBMI goes silent
I think part of the problem with the WWCK-FM is the actual composite pattern of the Directional Antenna. Like we see in the case of WLAV-FM, there are a number of shallow nulls in the major lobe. Plus, according to the Canadian Treaty restriction for 105.5 Chatham, ON, the composite ERP in the WWCK-...

Re: 105.5 WBMI goes silent
The apparent "Directional Antenna" pattern is actually caused by the large terrain differences in different directions, not the antenna. WBMI is NONDIRECTIONAL. It looks like a two tower AM pattern with a lot of augmentations. They turned off WBMB 1060 years ago, and it wasn't on that long. WBMI 105...

Re: WLCO Lapeer, off the air
You can't replace transmitter and DA guys like Don McComb and Bill Sanderson with Corporate Engineers, overextended cluster engineers, and IT staff. People have contacted the stations and Townsquare about issues like this and have received no response, people who could help, and it's the same at oth...

Detroit Emeralds (R&B Soul group recorded for Westbound Records) in 1971 & 1972!! The Detroit Emeralds are originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. "Detroit" originally stood for the Motown Sound. They had Regional Hits beginning in 1967. The first three are here. Show Time-#2 CKLW https://www.youtub...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
Unless WOOD-FM "optimized" the bay orientation or fixed a transmitter or transmission line problem, there have been no official changes shown in the FCC records.
