Re: So many 50 kW AM signals

Coverage areas differ tremendously from west to east in Michigan. I remember seeing a map of 1520 kHz coverage areas in Michigan back in the 1970s. WKJR-1520 Muskegon covered about the same area in square miles with 10 kilowatts as did WYNZ-1520 Ypsilanti with 250 watts! Neither station exists anym...

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

It's my belief that "conditions" are dragging the 99.3 signal inland on some days. There's no way it's broadcasting from anywhere near Traverse City. What's playing on 100.1/100.7, if anything? Roy lost his good tower site for that one, by not paying the site rent. 100.1/100.7 wasn't included in th...

WKLQ and WTNR don't run IBOC as far as I know (unless they turned it back on recently)

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

Anything new on this "cluster"? I am still puzzled as to how one can lease stations that are nearly technically impossible to operate. 92.3 and 101.9 seem to be running full power or close to it. I've heard 99.3 occasionally (my guess is that they're running flea power from its licensed site betwee...

Re: WCCW flips to Oldies

WCCW was the CKLW of TC in the 70's. Its a perfect format and this has never been a town to support two sports stations. Technically four in the large TC-Cadillac-Petoskey market before CCW flipped (although two didn't have a good signal in TC proper): 106.7 WSRT/105.5 WSRJ 1310 WCCW 93.7 WKAD/1340...

Most if not all Canadian TV signals are always directed away from Detroit.
I think the non-coms (CBET and TVO) are omnidirectional

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

I doubt 97.3 WDEE or 97.3 WMJO could move much if at all; ditto 96.9 Standish, 96.5 DeWitt, 96.5 Portage and 96.7 Albion. That part of the FM dial is very crowded. It appears under a certain FCC regulation (Section 73.3517?) that the 60 dBu contours of WLAV-FM and WLAW are not permitted to overlap....

Re: TV Guide

My in-laws subscribe to the Monroe Evening News, which has a TV listing section every Sunday. It has a grid of stations that cover which channels that appear on Dish, DirecTV and many cable systems that cover different parts of the county. But the grid makes no mention of over-the-air channels and ...

Re: WMOM shuts down

It would be difficult - but not impossible - to run profitably as a standalone. My guess is 45 North Media (operator via LMA of Eagle 101.5) is probably one of only two or three for-profit broadcasters who I could see being interested in WMOM. Dom & Jen Theodore - who have two stations in Cadillac ...

Re: March Nielsen numbers are out for Detroit radio

I know, I know,, corporate radio and Cumeless would never do it, but I would love for a country station that went outside the box and played only real country. That is, a format that dives deep into the independent and off-music row scene in addition to playing major label country artists. A format...

Maybe Roy H. will make a play for it.

Unlikely considering he's LMA'd his existing Michigan properties to Blarney Stone

Re: Longest Tigers Affiliate?

The Tigers in Grand Rapids were on a Fetzer owned station WJEF-AM 1230 when I first started listening to the games on radio around 1959. They continued on 1230 after Fetzer sold the station and it became WCUZ until sometime in the late 80's or so. The Tigers have also been heard through the years o...

Re: Longest Tigers Affiliate?

I believe WBRN in Big Rapids has been airing the Tigers since the early to mid 60's. I remember listening to the tigers on BRN when we were in the area on vacation. AM went off at sunset, but the games continued on the FM. I remember when the Tigers were on 97.3 WDEE in Reed City. My grandpa tried ...
