Re: Scanners

What about the drive throughs that are getting so much traffic these days? What kind of communications are they using? I've used those transceivers, and they barely have enough range to use at the far end of the restaurant's parking lot. I doubt you'd pick them up more than a block away. You can tr...

Re: Great Lakes Reception Maps

Well done! I haven't seen FM DX data presented quite like this before. The map answers questions that I would never have thought to ask. Back in my formative years, I was intensely interested in the correlation between TV DX conditions--especially on UHF--and severe weather. I had several interestin...

Great stuff! I hope an episode of Saturday Night Dead turns up.

Until then, we can still remember Count Zappula here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyOw1Bcs6BI

Re: MW DX Tonight

A few fair e-layer openings this week, I finally hit 100 SKCC club members worked on 12 M (24.9 MHz) CW and can apply for an ALL BAND SWEEP of single band endorsements with the SKCC club ! the 12 M band is a pretty lightly used frequency for us. Well done! Living in an apartment, I've never venture...

Re: MW DX Tonight

I concur with your position that this is an Auroral event. It wasn't just CB but AM that was constantly fading from one region to another with occasional dead air between reflections. The Mexican station on 640 was curiously immune from the shifting reflections. It was wall-to-wall and ten feet tall...

Re: MW DX Tonight

I've been hearing it and other Manitoba stations overnights, too. Reception seems to favour stations from the south to the west. KOA 850 Denver has been an easy catch. Some peashooter AMs from 100-200 miles away have boomed in like locals. A Mexican station on 640 has been blasting in. For the first...

I distinctly recall seeing WKBD slides many times on WPBN while viewing Felix The Cat in the mid '70s...

Re: Old School Local TV Megathread

Perhaps an old-timer here can answer this: Back when WWTV and WPBN shared a secondary ABC affiliation, how did each of them receive their ABC feed? While it seems possible that WWTV would've had ABC cabled or microwaved in, I doubt WPBN would've done so. The only off-air feeds possible when both sta...

Re: Old School Local TV Megathread

Nice catch! The 29&8 logo that briefly appears in the lower right corner at 18:46 was their in-program ID. They would black out the video behind it and display it whenever the WJRT-12 in-program ID aired. Often, there was a bit of a lag...just as there was when 7&4 took its network feed from WNEM, ...

Re: Thoughts on daily news conferences

I would much prefer that the briefings occur on an as-needed basis; e.g., when there is a significant development to report. To be brutally honest, most of these news conferences are like The Curse of Oak Island : they take a half hour, or even longer, to present 90 seconds' worth of information. It...

Re: Poor production quality during coronavirus

I've been doing a LOT of listening to WTMJ(AM) Milwaukee since my workplace shut down on the 17th, and much of their locally-originated programming has been produced at home studios since around that time. There were more than a few hiccups at first, but they're 99% back to the same high production ...
