Re: Environment Canada to end weather radio.

In the city, I am copying Environment Canada WX on 162.475MHz with a handheld scanner, in the basement. Of course, much more solid on the ham rig RX/outdoor antenna.

I posted this image on the Name The Beer thread and one user remarked that he couldn't see it. Others could see it. I saw it OK. Your hosting server is not a secure site (http: vs https:). Quite possible some users here have content blocker extensions on their browsers or through their ISP that do ...

Does she speak with a Canadian accent?
Can't tell. I didn't hear her say any giveaway words (dollar, about, plaza, been), and not a single "eh."
She does call out wave height in meters.

Re: Environment Canada to end weather radio.

During a recent VHF tropo opening, I discovered the CMB, Continuous Marine Broadcast, which I copied on 161.775 MHz. It's supposedly operated by the Canadian Coast Guard, so I'm guessing it and the other CMB stations are not among the Environment Canada facilities slated to be cut. If you are not a ...

Kevin Dietz isn't a weather guy, and I thought he worked at WDIV. Are you thinking Kevin James?
Kevin James? Doug Heffernan in The King of Queens?

Re: KYW Newsradio cuts teletype background sound

A lookup of KYW's history will also show that its original location under Westinghouse was in Chicago, from 1921-1934, then to Philly then to Cleveland then back to Philly.

Re: Late Summer NOAA WX Station DX

A few days ago, I was copying transmissions on each of the weather band channels, south and south central MI and northern Ohio and Indiana, and two from Environment Canada. The Tropo map was showing only minimal tropo conditions over this area but was enough to stop the scanner on each channel for a...

...the variable capacitor in the VFO....had a physical "governor" that prevented the VFO from operating out of band. I guess a suitable lesser capacitance variable capacitor wasn't available. I'm guessing the variable cap's physical range was mechanically limited so that only the most linear part o...

Re: AM reception question

We know that a light bulb does radiate, just a little bit. It's just that, to not generate QRM on the bands (especially if our shacks were in the basement), many of us used one in place of a real dummy load to check out our transmitters. Those tube finals and pi network output stages could handle th...
