Re: WMT 600 Cedar Rapids Legendary Self Supporting Tower Collapses In A Storm

Time to sell the land, it’s worth more than the tower and the station together. Unless the FCC were to approve a brand new 100 kW/2000 foot HAAT FM facility for them to move to, it would be impossible to even come close to duplicating the eight state 0.1 mV/m coverage on 600 kHz. https://radio-loca...

WMT 600 Cedar Rapids Legendary Self Supporting Tower Collapses In A Storm

WMT has applied for <=25% Power nondirectional Night STA after the legendary self supporting tower collapsed in a storm. https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/cdbsmenu.hts?context=25&appn=101819873&formid=911&fac_num=73593 WTVN 610 has been on 1250 watts STA after one of thei...

WMT 600 Original Self Supporting Tower Collapsed-Check For WSNL QRM

It will be interesting to see if there is more or less interference to WSNL from WMT after it's legendary self supporting tower collapsed in a storm, leaving two newer DA towers. WMT has been on STA before because of cell phone towers nearby reflecting the signal and affecting the DA pattern. It is ...

Re: Late Summer NOAA WX Station DX

I've already heard two duplicated frequencies, one from Marquette and one from Newberry, as I recall. The cochannel ones were in Wisconsin. This is all from the telecoping antenna connected with a BNC connector and on a universal joint, to the back of the scanner. No fancy DAs so far.

Re: Late Summer NOAA WX Station DX

I heard the Continuous Marine Broadcast VBE-3 on 161.775 MHz, presumably from Kincardine, ON, but possibly VBE-2 from Leamington, ON. The information online says they don't give individual IDs on each facility. Looking at some other weather related facilities, many use a 1 kW transmitter into a vert...

Re: WTOM Cheboygan Re: antenna lift

I’m recalling perceiving or reading in other filings or places that the old analog RF4 antenna will come down, with the new Dielectric RF16 one going up in its place. The channel 4 batwing came off the pole a long, long time ago....right after the DTV transition. I have had one of the bays behind m...

Late Summer NOAA WX Station DX

Since translators, IBOC, and other interference, it is becoming more difficult to DX the FM Band. We recently put my late relative's Scanner back into service. The provided antenna was limited, as it is difficult to change polarization and azimuth orientation. I just got a telescoping 115 cm antenna...

Re: WNIC past personalities.

Last I heard, Jim Harper was doing a Saturday airshift on WLXT Light 96.3 Petoskey. Reportedly, he was driving past the studios on US 31 South of Petoskey one day and decided to go in and see what was happening, and Trish MacDonald offered him a job.

Re: Eruption

I guess when Rosalie Trombley rejected breaking a record at CKLW, promoters went to WTAC, as Bob Seger and Punch Andrews did themselves in 1966-1967. Chess Records bought WTAC back in the 1950s thinking the signal got into Detroit better. Between the pattern and the real conductivities in between, i...

Re: Non Metallic Antenna Mounting Pipes

I talked to "Rudy", an engineer at Jampro as I recall, may be retired now, about a vertically polarized FM BC transmitting antenna we were considering, an he said that with a reflector for a DA, that the vertical tower pipes caused negligible pattern modification, from the generally three vertical p...

Re: Non Metallic Antenna Mounting Pipes

I was thinking of mounting a 5 element custom made directional antenna for 136-174 MHz, a homemade Yagi with modified dimensions from a homemade 174-216 MHz plan, and mounted vertically (vertical polarization). I would think that a vertical metallic pole might affect the pattern and null depth. It c...

Re: Eruption

20+ Year Top 40 formatted WTAC Big 600 was the first radio station in the United States to play "I Can't Stand The Rain". Then and only then did it spread to R & B Stations like WJLB Detroit and WVON Chicago. WDAI, which was briefly known as "Disco 'DAI" before it was "blown up" by Steve Dahl in Com...

Is 1510 still a valid Canadian frequency since there are so damn many 1520's in the States?
I was responding to this post about 1520s precluding 1510. First adjacent protection is 0.5 mV/m to 0.5 mV/m under the Agreement with Canada.

Re: CKOT 1510

Is 1510 still a valid Canadian frequency since there are so damn many 1520's in the States? In my experience, the Canadian AM allotments in the Region II Database are never removed except with replacement with an equivalent allotment. Many US AM allotments have been removed from the Region II Datab...

Re: AM reception question

Just an additional 2 MHz could handle all the Class IVs/Cs and many <=1 kW Class Bs and Ds above 900 kHz, could be replaced with 1 kW/100 meter HAAT STATIONS protected to the 63 dBu primary service contour, with specific second adjacent channel exceptions, with no substantial loss of usable service ...
