Re: Big8radio.com - Online Tribute Radio Station

Then I’ll assume Michael Brandon’s part covers your recollections of the era.

Is Dick Biondi heard on the WCFL site? I got to hear him speak once at an event in the 80’s, after he’d returned to Chicago.

Re: Big8radio.com - Online Tribute Radio Station

I once worked for a man who had been a PD at WIXY 1260. He let me listen to (and I have a cassette copy of somewhere) some WIXY ID’s he’d worked on - I recall the year was mentioned, followed by “WIXY rememberers!” Fans of CKLW may have seen this film, but I haven’t bought my copy yet - still plan t...

Re: Big8radio.com - Online Tribute Radio Station

Not all the CanCon was worth skipping. I recall the evening show “On The Edge” in the early 80’s, and besides playing about the first 2 minutes of each song before starting another one, there were some opportunities to hear acts like Payola$, Prism, The Kings, Chilliwack, Red Rider, Loverboy, Rough ...

Re: Here we go again :/

The disagreement is waged between cable/satellite companies and station owners or ownership groups. A fair amount of content on most stations is from a network. Since the networks carried on the removed stations lose viewers and therefore potentially lose revenue, shouldn’t the networks have some in...

Re: ABC12 constant clicking sound on morning news

I’d visited 66 years ago, but didn’t end up working there. It wasn’t anything like the Pierson Rd compound they’ve set up now by fencing off their building and parking lot, as well as that of the former tire store next door that they’d taken over, as well. I stopped by 12 once as well, but it alread...

Re: Nexstar in Flap With DIRECTV and AT&T-UVerse

Yes, Nexstar owns WOTV. I realize they operate from the same building as WOOD-TV. They’re, however, licensed to Battle Creek, which is over 60 miles away from Grand Rapids. (If you go another 30 miles or so further, you’ll find a transmitter of yet another ABC station, WLAJ, serving Lansing.) The qu...

Re: Nexstar in Flap With DIRECTV and AT&T-UVerse

Another week, and WOOD and WOTV are still off. It’s interesting that AT&T Uverse has removed both NBC and ABC from On Demand, even though there’s another ABC (WZZM) not involved in the dispute on the system. Why does one supersede the other?

Re: Here we go again :/

The roadmap for the cable or satellite provider is make your fee demand, refuse to negotiate, discontinue running the miscreant offenders, and blame the station for not wanting to provide their programming to the viewers who have your service. When government shutdowns are almost expected every year...

Re: ABC12 constant clicking sound on morning news

Could it be the sound of weapons being readied coming from the great neighborhoods around the station? There’s a reason they have the station property fenced off as much as they do.

25 and 66 aren’t in any better location, but there hasn’t been a mention of clicking there, has there?

Here’s hoping that those odds are, in fact, favoring you.

I have a feeling this thread could go stumbling on as long as Bill’s career otherwise.

Re: Why bother with a broadcast anymore?

The weather teases usually reference whenever the next weather worth warning about might show up, rather than the better weather that might be occurring now. If they’re about having something to warn to justify their slogan, then they’re just “the tv station that cried wolf”, and not many will be pa...

WPAG-AM in Ann Arbor had a jingle, I assume was from the 1960’s, mentioning the WPAG “Weather-ometer”.

Re: SCREW YOU! I’M KEEPING YOU SAFE!!!

Considering it was their own thread that went off topic, I guess the arguing is their preferred method of dialogue. If the subject is how tv “professionals” should be above responding to criticism of how their station’s programming is prioritized, then shouldn’t said critic be above the criticism (g...

Re: WKMF Call Letters Return To Flint

I realize it’s meant more as a metaphor than anything else, but Brassow Rd certainly hasn’t been gravel in decades, and even Maple Rd, at the east end of Brassow, got paved years ago. I like the speculation as to the call letter changes. It’s always a good idea to retain heritage calls in case they’...
