Re: Comcast and NBC in Detroit
I'm sorry your premice doesn't make sense. Fox is shrinking its presense in Detroit. It sold Fox Sports Detroit to Disney who is in the process of divesting FSD and its sister RSNs I don’t think Graham is doing well financially. Where do you get this from??? Graham Holdings NYSE stock went way up si...

Re: Breaking: Nexstar reaches agreement to purchase Tribune
E.W. Scripps to acquire WXMI, the Fox affiliate in Grand Rapids as part of Nexstar divestiture . I think the bigger get from that article is Scripps is getting WPIX New York. That's a big deal. It would be interesting if Scripps could use its leverage as the largest ABC affiliate owner and change 1...

Re: Channel 4 in the pre-WDIV days
Anyone remember Wes Sarginson? Sarginson was only in Detroit for a couple of years and was gone by the time The Washington Post bought channel 4. He was a traveling anchor... Montgomery, Pittsburgh, Philly, Detroit, Atlanta, Washington, Tampa and stayed in Atlanta for the second time at WXIA. He r...

Re: With Disney buying Fox...
Disney isn't getting the Fox television network, the Fox O&O stations, the Fox News Channel nor the national Fox Sports Networks. The part of 21st Century Fox that Disney bought was mainly the Fox movie studio, its film rights, part of Hulu and the regional sports networks. And it has to divest the ...

Re: Channel 4 in the pre-WDIV days
There's literally dozens of videos of Bozo shows from around the country on Youtube. I know WGN and WZZM had their Bozo shows on through the 90s. The guy who played him in Grand Rapids, Dick Richards, did a nice show. Art Cervi who played Bozo here at Channel 9 and then at TV2 still does interviews ...

FCC wants to lower or drop ownership rules
It looks like the FCC is ready to drop a lot of the ownership limits for broadcasters. When it meets in November is going to vote to discontinue media cross-ownership with same market outlets, remove ownership caps and allow duopolies of top 4 stations in markets. This is a major shift from ownershi...

Re: Channel 4 in the pre-WDIV days
One of the most endearing personalities at channel 4 that everyone seemed to love was Milky the Clown. He was played by Clare Cummings, a master magician. His show was sponsored by Twin Pines Dairy, thus the name Milky and his all white costume. He was a bit before my time but, if you mention Milky ...

Re: Channel 4 in the pre-WDIV days
Betty Carrier was gone by the early 70's. She was a news anchor but, it didn't seem that long. I think there was some kind of stir in town that she came and went form anchoring so quick. Joe Pellegrino was a sports guy at channel 4 in the 70's and was on the Tigers' broadcasts. I'm pretty sure he wa...

Re: Channel 4 in the pre-WDIV days
Channel 4 became WDIV-TV in the summer of '77,around my 24th birthday, just before I went to St. Clair College here in Windsor and a month before Elvis died. It was 1978. Kay Graham paid cash and traded WTOP-TV in Washington, DC for WWJ-TV. The News got WTOP straight-up. The only thing channel 4 had...

Re: Channel 4 in the pre-WDIV days
In the late 60's and most of the 70's it was crap. Its newscasts were being eaten alive by channel 2 and channel 7. Channel 4's news was adequate but, behind whatever ABC and Storer were doing. The only thing it had going for it was Sonny Eliot and Carol Duvall. At least those are the two I remembe...

Re: Gretcholm wants to raise fuel taxes by 45 cents/gallon by 2020
Has any one of the "media outlets" in Michigan actually published or aired the actual amount of state taxes we pay per gallon? Its not just 18 cents per gallon with sales tax. According to the the American Petrolium Institute in January the total with state taxes and fees is 38.41 cents per gallon. ...

7 Action News at 4pm... Buh bye to The Now
Channel 7 is running promos for " 7 Action News at 4pm " with pics of Dave Rexroth and Carolyn Clifford. I can only guess that someone in the Scripps higher offices finally woke up before 4:59pm turned on the TV and caught the worse than cable access production of "The Now" and canned that POS show....
