Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

BEN ZONIA—you should buy that long boom 14-element Hi-VHF yagi, install it, and report on the signal strengths you are getting from CBET-9 in Windsor in a new thread you can start about that other antenna. Give readers all the details. In this thread I have been reporting on the Televes antenna. If ...

Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

To update the performance of the Televes Hi-VHF yagi for reception of CBET-9 in Windsor at my location in Bingham Farms, the return of cold air temperatures and loss of foliage on the trees has improved reception to the point where the indicated SNR is now typically 19 to 20 dB as given in the signa...

Re: Solid Signal Black Friday Deals

Regarding Solid Signals: you can place an order over the telephone and pick-up your order at their facility in Novi, but only for products that they keep in stock at that location (and only if you can navigate through a maze of road closures to get there). Re the Televes Hi-VHF yogi, the "sale" pric...

Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

I see that an outdoor antenna is not an option for this person. There are two aspects in play here. Federal regulations cover outdoor antennas for reception of television signals, and provide everyone with the option to use an outdoor antenna, including me. There are some limitations, which I will ...

Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

I see that an outdoor antenna is not an option for this person. That is a major problem. Not only is there signal absorption from walls, but reflections off those walls that affect the pattern of the antenna. The antenna that is the TOPIC of this discussion is not blocked by any walls in the signal...

Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

...[CBET} they moved the TV tower WAY out West of the City, to beter [sic] serve the counties over there , across the river. If you are referring to CBET formerly CKLW, the antenna move was not to the West of Detroit or Windsor. The antenna location moved from downtown Windsor to the Southeast, inl...

When I read the antennas under test were "inside an attic"...
I do not understand where in this thread you read about antennas that were inside an attic. Please explain what you are referring to.

Re: Sources of Local Interference Affecting VHF Reception

Above my desk there are two [lamps]. When one of the fluorescent tubes failed last month I replaced them both with the new type of LED replacement tubes. Tonight I tried switching them off. The noise went away immediately. They really emit a lot of noise. Emission of radio-frequency interference (R...

Re: Sources of Local Interference Affecting VHF Reception

ASIDE: I have a second television receiver in the form of a Channel Master DDR. This receiver also can report data about the received TV signal, giving a metric in relative signal strength (0 to 100) and in "quality" (also 0 to 100). Interpreting the measurement of signal "quality" was somewhat nebu...

Re: Sources of Local Interference Affecting VHF Reception

Re LTE filtering: I have a neighbor whose adult son lives with him. The son seems to spend a lot of time with his car parked in the driveway yakking on his cellular telephone before going into the house. This puts his vehicle about 50-feet away from my TV antenna, directly in line with the main lobe...

Sources of Local Interference Affecting VHF Reception

Here is some data from a number of tests I have made to determine what locally-generated sources of interference to VHF TV signals were affecting reception at my location. TEST METHOD The test arrangement was a typical home computer, computer monitor, WiFi base station, and Ethernet hub. The antenna...

Brian Beezley could probably improve on this design with more modern modeling.
I doubt it. The guy behind Innovation Antenna is probably at the forefront of antenna modeling and construction.

Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

On the predicted signal map linked above, my location is in the yellow shaded area, indicating “hard indoor” reception for CBET-09. I am trying to do exactly that: receive CBET-09 with an indoor antenna, albeit a 7-element Hi-VHF yagi is a bit more than the typical indoor antenna. Now that I have be...

Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

There is also another man nearby that has an antenna test range who could do the testing you say is impossible. You have invented something I did not say. I said accurate modeling must include element spacing. I said nothing about testing a real antenna on an antenna test range. However, I will say...

Re: Televes Hi-VHF Yagi

The model of the Televes antenna in question would certainly be a poor choice for those desirous of VHF low reception over a significant distance. They do have other models that might work decently for that, though. I don’t think Televes has any dedicated Hi-VHF antennas that would be better than t...
