License revocations

With the discussion going on over on the Northern Michigan board over some actions that could lead to a license or several licenses getting deleted, I figured it was time to bring up James McCluskey. He had CPs for a few full-power noncommercial FMs (mostly licensed for 1kW or less) and a boat load ...

Re: Now we know where WQAN was broadcasting from!

He made a "donation" of $50,000 and lost his CP over the 95.9 license over a decade ago. But that was a result of filing false paperwork to meet a deadline. When he started using STL frequencies licensed to Interlochen, there was no penalty. In this case, he didn't mislead the fcc, he just started ...

Re: Q106 interference

If they want the sports format on FM, they should get a hold of Goodrich as they have two translators covering pretty much the exact same area. If I were Goodrich, I'd offer Cumulus 95.3. Grand Rapids has to be the market with the most translators and LPFMs in the country (if not, it's very close): ...

Re: Another horrendous book for Q105

Out of market stations used to be counted, and would show up. They are still rated, so why their owners paid for their Toledo numbers seems odd. I don’t listen to WJLB- do they have any Toledo businesses advertising except perhaps the casino? Doubt it. iHeart seems to be extremely inconsistent in r...

Re: Ratings are out!

No one bought or will buy a country station other than WTCM. It's almost as if you want to position your business with a loser. I agree that there are 3 markets in our survey area. Like Ann Arbor to Detroit. TC is the Detroit, Petoskey is the Ann Arbor. In the TC market, WTCM is the country station...

Re: Is cord-cutting (specifically OTA-only) hard for the Lansing area?

With an external rooftop antenna (i.e. old school antenna) in the Lansing-East Lansing area, some Flint, Saginaw, and Grand Rapids stations can likely be received

Re: Ratings are out!

IMHO, the Traverse City market is three or four separate markets joined by a few signals (WTCM/WBCM, WKLT/WKLZ, WGFM/WGFE, WKHQ, WJZQ): The Traverse City five-county area; Petoskey/Cheboygan/Gaylord; Cadillac/Houghton Lake (HL not in the market, but WUPS is a subscriber); Manistee/Ludington (Ludingt...

Ratings are out!

New ratings just released: https://ratings.radio-online.com/content/arb335 Just 56% of listeners go to subscribing stations! I would guess Trish's stations would combine for around 13-15% of listeners and other non-subscribers/out of market stations combine for around 5-10%, so that would mean 20-25...

Re: 102.7 WDKL HD and all Air1 translators off air since last Friday

WCPZ 102.7 Sandusky, OH. One of the very "short spaced" facilities the FCC made short spaced under new rules in the early 1960s. Both WBRB-FM and WLEC-FM were on AM towers, with Lake Erie and Canada in between. They were both protected to the 60 dBu, and didn't overlap over Canada or over Lake Erie...

Re: WDRV now #1 in Chicago

With the top station in Chicagoland with a 5 share, shows alot of listeners going elsewhere than AM/FM radio for their listening. Not true, more people more stations bigger market smaller slices of the pie, a 5 share in Chicago is like a 7 or 8 share in Detroit the audience is there just older, tha...

Lake tropo 8/1-8/3

Late last week, I had three nights in a row of strong Milwaukee/Chicago tropo. Here are some of the notable stations I received: Bold indicated first time catches. Saturday (8/3) also had very strong tropo to the north. 87.75 WRME Chicago, IL 88.1 WMWK Milwaukee, WI 88.5 WIAB Mackinaw City, MI 88.9 ...
