Re: 600-mile lake tropo (8/24)

The most impressive is getting KBGY around WCCW and WDUZ 107.5 looked like this pretty much all evening: WCCW / 40dBµ, stereo / local WCCN / 20dBµ, mono in easy null KBGY / 20dBµ, mono still in rather easy null No sign of WDUZ, which is 100 miles away and much lower power than WCCN, though WDUZ at ...

Re: Lodging/hospital cable lineups

I’m in a hotel in New Buffalo right now, and they have the South Bend locals (of course), plus WBBM, WMAQ, WLS, and WTTW from Chicago, and WWMT from Kalamazoo. Surprised they allow so many out of market stations, but it’s great to have. Sadly, it’s WGN America instead of the real thing. Comcast in ...

Re: KFOG Bites The Dust

I would have picked country to go on 104.5 over sports, especially a simulcast of an AM (unless country would do even worse in the ratings than the current KFOG)

Re: Now we know where WQAN was broadcasting from!

From what I heard, Dave Schaberg is no longer with us. Mr. Schaberg came up with some of the upgrade plans. Not to diminish what he did accomplish, many were WAY too complicated, though, inviting a lot of Petitions to Deny and such. Henderson HAD a C2 CP for WQAN, which put a solid signal over Trav...

Re: Sunny 92.5 / 97.5 Nash Icon

Wouldn't shock me if Cumulus tries to find a way to keep 97.5 operating from its current site even as LAV broadcasts from the Allendale site. The CP site for 97.5 is not great. Cumulus should just sell 97.5. That frequency is better suited for a non-commercial operator. I mean - how many friggin' F...

Re: License revocations

Having helped McKluskey out at WKNX back in the day, he knew one mode and ONLY one mode: fly by the pants. Thankfully, I didn't learn his traits of bad engineering (I was 17 and had way more sense than he did!). I have seen with my own eyes pirate stations who operate far more "legal" than Jim did ...

Re: Ken Evans Out at 105.3

I wont be surprised if cumulus throws in the towel and flips it to WLAV or something. WLAV's CP site and 105.3 have quite a bit of overlap (a little too much to make a simulcast worthwhile). I could see the following happen: 1. 105.3 continues as a low-rate CHR 2. Cumulus sells 97.5 and moves Nash ...

Re: What's Finster doing these days?

Finster said he's telling everybody on Facebook tomorrow where he is going. I heard from someone that he is reuniting with Omelette in the Mornings. Black Diamond is probably his only landing spot at this point. He could go to Blarney Stone but that outfit is a mess. O-man's rating could use the bo...

Re: License revocations

McCluskey had a CP for a 93.3 translator in Manistee that I don't think ever made it on the air. Speaking of 93.3, it can be considered a cursed frequency of sorts as recently there was a full power CP in Onekama that never made it onto the air (and likely never really had plans to as it never was a...

Re: Now we know where WQAN was broadcasting from!

Not why, (life's not fair, that's why) but how... A good lawyer can make problems disappear. Henderson has been working on a move in since he bought the stations. Do you think someone who has spent as much as he has on legal fees can't afford to fix his transmitters? He's a horrible business man bu...

Re: CICO-32 in Windsor

Once CBET went digital, it became a fringe signal for me. My two antennas point in the Saint Clair Shores and Southfield directions now. That gets me all of the Detroit majors, including WADL. If the CBC were smart, they would boost power and add subchannels to CBET. Add some unique subchannels and...

License revocations

With the discussion going on over on the Northern Michigan board over some actions that could lead to a license or several licenses getting deleted, I figured it was time to bring up James McCluskey. He had CPs for a few full-power noncommercial FMs (mostly licensed for 1kW or less) and a boat load ...
