Re: 101.9 wldr

I still would be surprised if any of Henderson's stations are sold with this round of NBI's. He paid 3.25mil for WLDR, and overpaid for the Benzie/Manistee properties too and I just don't see him getting what I suspect he feels they are worth. A cluster of 3 went for 6 million in Denver a while ago...

Re: Straits Country 97.7 and WMTE-FM 92,5 are going to be sold.

1. WMTE-FM is on 101.5, not 92.5
2. WMTE-FM isn't a simulcast of WMJZ (they might air the same songs in the same order, but each station airs their own ads)

Re: 101.9 wldr

Much of Northern's cluster will soon be broken up, as deals are becoming lined up for each property; which will move to various buyers; including the multiple signals presently used to air ESPN. I would imagine the agenda of the new various owners would be to put new formats across those frequencie...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Dave Schaberg and Jim McCluskey tried to put 280A 103.9 into Big Rapids WBZX was originally allocated to Harrison and moved into Big Rapids. The incumbent Big Rapids broadcaster did everything they could to prevent WBZX from getting licensed. The Schaberg McCluskey drop in was done around 1980. It ...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Usually, an equivalent Class channel is required for substitution. 244A was substituted for 278C. Dave Schaberg and Jim McCluskey tried to put 280A 103.9 into Big Rapids back around 1980, but then WTCM-FM moved South to serve Cadillac better, and 272A 102.3 was substituted for 280A 103.9, and WAAQ ...

Re: 101.9 wldr

A few weeks ago, while browsing the FCC history cards online, WTCM-FM was originally planned to be on 101.9 before it changed its CP to 103.5. I wonder if the 103.5 frequency was originally allocated to Manistee or Ludington at that time (early to mid 1960s; I found it odd that neither Manistee nor ...

Re: CHYR Radio 7 Canada

I remember CHYR 710 blasting into Grand Rapids, MI every day in the '66-'72 era! It was even stronger than WJR's signal, which was pretty decent. Could never hear the night signal when they'd 'jump' to 730, though. CFCO on 630 was another 'long haul' to Grand Rapids in daytime with a good strength....

Re: 101.9 wldr

I do! Station was completely automated and had no advertisers. Music wasn't bad. Imaging was rock solid. Problem is - it launched at damn near the same time as Real Rock 105.1/95.5. 95.5's incumbent listenership was already substantial, and 95.5's signal across the Grand Traverse region is much str...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Running carrier without audio is still illegal in the eyes of the FCC; so the potential for additional fines exists as long as the transmitters are on the air without programming and legal IDs. It would be wiser to shut them off, apply for an STA and sit on them for another six months. At least wit...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Remember that the figures reflect the entire Traverse City Petoskey Cadillac market counties, not just Traverse City or Grand Traverse County. This is a H*** area for even the biggest facilities to cover. Most of the bigger stations have satellites which simulcast them. Most still fall short of ful...

Re: 2018 GR Holiday Radio Ratings?

The reason radio is ranked in the upper 60's is because not enough owners are willing to allow additional counties to be added to the Metropolitan Statistical Area defined by Nielsen. For many years now, the Arbitron / Nielsen Audio MSA has been restricted to just Kent & Ottawa Counties. I suspect ...

Re: 101.9 wldr

Why hasn't the disappearance of a 100 kW FM radio station from the airwaves caught the attention of TV 9 & 10 or TV 7 & 4? If a major signal disappeared in, say, Grand Rapids - the TV news rooms would be all over the story like flies on shit! Because WLDR had fewer listeners in the Traverse City TV...
