Re: Iheart Disloctation

WNDE Indy dumped their afternoon show, meaning no local programming left. 1430 canned their only local show last year. Three sports stations in that town, with only 1070 having any sort of Indy sports talk. The afternoon team in Indy should have offered to buy that time slot, and continued with the...

Re: What happened to Maz on the DMP?

Who the hell would want to listen to a Tom Mazeway podcast? Let me guess - one of his first interviews will be with that senile goon, Lynn Henning. Wrong again, my rancid colleague. It's the brilliance that is Frank Beckmann, who's speaking to Henning as I type this :lol I have never understood the...

Re: WJR shits the bed again...this time with a 2.2 share!

Funny you should mention Nashville. Cumulus' WWTN Supertalk 99.7 has very good local hosts. The station has been doing quite well. One host is Michael DelGiorno, who is on from 9 to Noon CST, and is much better than the vast majority of local hosts nationwide. For those who don't remember, Michael'...

Re: Seriously WTF?

^^^and for this reason, I miss 97.1 WKRK.... WKRK tanked due to too much micromanagement from the corporate suits in New York. It never had time to evolve, and the execs would not stop meddling. They were in it deep enough to the point where they were telling the PD which songs/bands he couldn't pl...

Re: Seriously WTF?

I am quite surprised that none of you have commented on the R&R AOR chart at the link I posted, and how different the AOR of yesterday is from the "Classic Rock" and "Active Rock" of today. The majority of the tracks on that chart are just...gone from OTA radio. The closest thing we have to a tradit...

Re: Windsor ratings are out; 89X is slipping again

I will likely be the lone dissenting vote here, but I actually find it refreshing to hear "New Rock" on 89X. This may come as a shock to you youngsters, but back in the days of AOR, we didn't always know if a song was going to be a "stiff" or not. Weekly music meetings included the PD, MD, GM, and w...

Re: Seriously WTF?

I'm not sure how "The One I Love" managed to test in (all these years, I might add). I'm not sure how any REM tests in...they weren't exactly AOR darlings... That's incorrect. Early REM was definitely played on AOR FM stations, including the 3 where I was employed. "The One I Love" debuted on WIOT ...

Re: What will happen to 107.5 WGPR come January 1, 2020??

Not that it would bill worth a shit, but a format akin to Old School Saturday would be cool. Go even older than the other throwback stations are willing to go. I think the old school R&B is covered with Mix and Kiss, but those are white owned. Masons can focus on black audiences. My vote is for Cla...

Re: WPON WCXI Updates - 2019

Correct. WPON was focused on Pontiac and Oakland County. The station played music, sort of a unique blend of AC/MOR, and R&B at times. There was a news department, with local news. Studios were in the Riker Building, Pontiac's only skyscraper. Around 1980 or so, WPON flipped to country, as "Oakland ...

Re: Post mortem of 98.7 The Breeze's unsuccessful Christmas music run

Now that it’s back to the regular format, the library is still way too small, IMO. Also, why they even have voice talent beyond the morning show is beyond me. What does Smokey Rivers add? He opens the mic like 3x and hour, and says (voicetracks) nothing important. I know the days of having someone ...

Warren Pierce is still at WJR. I heard him filling in for Paul W., this week.
Good news. Pleased to see this. The displaced TV personalities always sound a bit out of their comfort zone on radio. Leave fill-in work to a real radio guy, like Warren.

Re: WJR shits the bed again...this time with a 2.2 share!

How many country stations do you think this market needs? Two, which is precisely what it has now (not counting "fringe" signals that are technically "in the market" such as WSAQ Port Huron). Right now, country is popular because it has crossover appeal with pop music. I dont think it does well at ...

Re: WJR shits the bed again...this time with a 2.2 share!

There's no reason to pull the plug on Nash FM. For as low budget as that station is, a 2.9 share is very respectable. There is no other music format where a 2.9 share can be achieved with as small a budget....NONE!!! The station spends almost NO money on programming morning drive, evenings or overn...
