Don't expect her to stick around too long. One Grand Rapids winter and she'll be outta there.

Earlier today, I happened to see a brand new GMC pickup, with an old WLLZ sticker on the bumper. Apparently, someone out there likes the new Wheels.

Re: 1470 WFNT

Last time I tuned past WFNT, the audio was way too low. 1420 WFLT sounds far better. Airing network spot feeds for hours before someone notices, is an old bit. Here in Detroit, the old Talk Radio 1270 WXYT was famous for that on weekends.

Is Rob Bennett still around? He was on Wheels at night back in the early 90's. Lost track of him after that. Nobody knows where Gary Palmer is these days? Sadly, Dorian Pastor, Steve Striker, Kerry Maul, and Bob Bauer are no longer with us, and left way too soon.

Re: 106.7 WLLZ: Detroit's Wheels (Classic Rock) is here

Wheels never played Billy Joel at any point. The original Wheels was an AOR station. At some point, the corporate programming suits did away with AOR, and started aiming for the lowest common denominator in listeners. Wheels was already Smooth Jazz when this practice became standard operating proced...

I sure hope so Son, I was part of WLLZ in 1980 and it puts tears in my eyes when I listen to what IHeart is doing with the WLLZ calls.
How exactly were you "a part" of WLLZ in 1980?

Re: Songs on the radio that you never get tired of

The Rockets version of "Oh Well". It has that distinct Detroit sound.

Also, almost any song from Fleetwood Mac's "Tango In the Night"... Believe it or not, that was a h u g e album on FM104 WIOT when it was released 32 years ago.

MW, in other words, you want to remake the disaster formerly known as 97-1 Extreme Radio. Not exactly a good plan. Where's Gonzo Greg these days?

Re: Classic Country In The North

101.9 is probably the only frequency where there would be any measure of success. I wouldn't attempt it without help from Tim Achterhoff.

Re: Could a Breeze Format make it in Toledo?

Gold based AC would work in Toledo. The best place would be on 105.5, as "105FM 3WM"... It worked for many years. Bill Stewart could do morning drive. He's already in the building.

Re: Classic Country In The North

Classic Country would be a logical choice up north, but here's how it would play out... The station would sound great. You would likely find business owners willing to buy spots, and play the station in their place of business. The minute the business owner leaves, his hayseed employees change the s...
