Re: 1260 Zeeland Transmitter site burns
I sent an e-mail to them in Big Rapids - which I've done before in the past with zero reply, so there's no surprise there - asking them the same thing basically. I was curious if they planned to take their 107.7, which has a truly epic shitty signal, and broadcast some HD channel from a co-owned st...

Re: WWJ ID's
You can hear their TOH ID here, from my 5 1/2 hour TOH ID compilation. They run their ID at :56 each hour with a second non-legal ID at :58.

Tropolicious Recordings
Some recordings from the three-day tropolicious 400+ mile insanity that ranked as the second strongest event of 2018 (behind the week-long 400-600+ mile early July opening) here in Fremont, Michigan (100 mi. ene of Milwaukee). At times, every frequency was on seek and the 2,600-foot inversion was so...

Re: Holy Winter Tropo Blasters!
Signals here in Fremont are intense like last night with signal meter readings upwards to 55dBu on many stations. The noise level is up to 25 (instead of the usual 0dBu) because this inversion is so intense. Most of London is blasting in here, stereo, RDS, and all. Star 102.5 Buffalo is in strong wi...

Re: Holy Winter Tropo Blasters!
Photo, please. :lol The reason I don't take photos of radio stuff is because I have OCD. I have a set of rules that I follow for DXing (and now and then break) to limit the amount of time necessary for any given project as once I start something, it can easily snowball ... or avalanche, into someth...

Re: Holy Winter Tropo Blasters!
Things quickly calmed down about the time I posted this. Still plenty of strong stuff to be heard, though right now, from here it's mostly intense in the Kalamazoo area (93.7, 105.7, 106.5, 100.9, 96.5, etc.). 100.9 is in stereo on seek right now with no sign of my 27-mi. local from Big Rapids. Whic...

Re: Holy Winter Tropo Blasters!
The inversion tonight is at 2,800 feet with a 10-degree (F) inversion, which is quite notable. Visibility is currently zero. I'd be fine if things calmed down even more, as long as I get better recordings of the crappy IDs I got for my project from earlier in the summer. Two hours ago, it was so int...

Re: Holy Winter Tropo Blasters!
I'm sorry. I cannot take a photo of audio! I don't think that has quite been invented yet!! (This is why we take recordings of audio!) Conditions are still very strong, but a lot of the Detroit and Toledo stations have abruptly dropped off. Got a nice recording of 92.5 The Castle over my 11-mi. loca...

Holy Winter Tropo Blasters!
Hope everyone has been enjoying this strongest short-haul tropo opening of 2018 today! It started at 10am here in Fremont with intense signals from the northwest, lingered very strongly throughout the day and then blew open at sunset with anywhere from 2 to 6 stations per frequency, every frequency ...

Re: What happened yesterday?
Yes, HKRROZ al Kuwait took out the forum. You can see his page here , which shows a lot of his past work. He knows what he's doing for sure. I guess it wasn't destructive; just wanted to remind people that security (of this forum that has been half-wiped out just weeks ago) sucks. And reminds me tha...

Re: Mount Pleasant 11/27
WCCN is very common down here in any western tropo opening, including at the beach along with 90.3. All the big La Crosse ones on the tower on the Minnesota side. I'd often get that one over Traverse City any day. WCCW is the easiest of the Traverse City frequencies (besides captain obvious WLDR) to...

Copper Harbor Bandscans
Here is a set of three bandscans from Copper Harbor, in the middle of Lake Superior. One set is from Fort Wilkins, which includes a scan in the campground 1,000 feet from the beach at night combined with a scan from Astor Shipwreck Park on the beach in the morning, both in a single map. These scans ...

Re: Mount Pleasant 11/27
Yeah, CCW's signal mostly goes to the north over the water. Aside from when strong conditions from Northern Michigan come in down here in Fremont, it's all Chicago and Detroit here and Green Bay is very common too. Traverse City is comparatively rare on the frequency.

Palisade Head, Minn. Bandscans
Palisade Head is among the more magnificent locations at which I've tuned in. Ten years ago, Grand Marais DXer Paul LaFreniere (who died of cancer in 2009) told me that 10-watt stations are quite commonly heard across Lake Superior. Here is the undeniable proof of that with four stations under 50 wa...
