Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

Can't say I'm surprised. I doubt they'd admit to running less than rated power. That'd be silly, considering one could just make the argument that that's what was given to them when they bought the stations. Any reasonable person could understand they'd need to be given some chance to upgrade. Of c...

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

I actually sent an e-mail to Blarney Stone to try to determine what power all the old Henderson stations were running at, assuming if Blarney bought them, they had to have had their engineer at the transmitter sites and perhaps would be open to letting me know what the power was/is at those stations...

Brimley / Sault Ste. Marie Bandscans

Here are two scans from Brimley, ten miles outside Sault Ste. Marie. The first scan was performed during a typical nighttime radiation inversion, which is largely Northern Michigan stations. Weather was still dense fog over the lake, a strong low-pressure system dumping inches (even a foot-plus of r...

Whitefish Point Bandscan

Here's a bandscan from Whitefish Point. While it would appear to an outsider to be a great spot for lake tropo, it really isn't, mainly for the reason that it lacks the elevation that is required for Lake Superior ducts. The result is that one merely hears many TrS-type signals that are falling out ...

Re: 1260 Zeeland Transmitter site burns

Maybe the WBRN problems had to do with STL Microwave Tropo feed problems? I'm not so sure about that, but I really can't speculate further. They came back on some days later (perhaps a week?). However, 96.5's signal coverage drastically changed upon coming back on the air. Before they went off, the...

Miners Castle Bandscan

Here's a bandscan from Miners Castle, just east of Manistique. The weather over the lake was very dense lake fog in the midst of a strong low pressure system, the same one that crossed Wisconsin and Michigan and flooded the Madison area with over a foot of rain the day before. Nonetheless, condition...

West Michigan Top-of-Hour IDs (87 stations)

Here is the full West Michigan Top-of-Hour ID compilation as recorded while walking around the living room at home in Fremont on my Grundig G8 portable with my Olympus WS-821 voice recorder this summer and fall. This is different from the above locals-only compilation as it includes the entire area....

Re: West Michigan Top-of-Hour IDs

Also, what stations just missed the cut? Hey, I didn't expect anyone would look into that question! I recall the stations I wanted to squeeze in there but also wanted to keep the number at 50, just as I had to make a few cuts to keep it at 500 total (note that it was originally 100, but things got ...

Re: West Michigan Top-of-Hour IDs

I love the length of the IDs for CMU Public Radio and Strong Tower Radio! :) This is an absolutely phenomenal compilation, cckadlec. Thank you for sharing it!!! BTW, the V/O guy on WGHN-FM is the same old fart that Michigan State uses for its football & basketball radio broadcasts. WGHN, Michigan S...

Re: West Michigan Top-of-Hour IDs

Holy smokes, he does say W T HN Grand Haven. Clear as a bell. WTF? Nooo kidding. Thank you for listening and confirming I am totally not insane (in a radio sense anyway). I lived and breathed legal IDs for 7 straight months to the point when I hear them on the radio while in the car, I reach for my...

West Michigan Top-of-Hour IDs

Greetings all. In advance of my 500 TOH ID project being released in about a week featuring the legal IDs of 500 regularly-heard area FM stations as recorded this summer, here are some regional IDs for now. I have these recordings grouped by market (Milwaukee, Northern Michigan, Mid-Michigan, West M...

Re: Pure Michigan

In all my travels (quite a bit), I've heard the ads most extensively on the radio in Wisconsin, Illinois, and especially rampant in Ontario, such as the Hamilton and GTA stations. Any market with a lot of people that is within a few hours of Michigan. Never heard them outside the Midwest though, tho...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

I had assumed they had long since moved to Allendale, but didn't take much of the process into consideration (and not very invested in them to care too much). Just seemed they picked up and moved to the WBBL tower pretty quickly when they had to, so I figured maybe they'd do the same here. But at th...

Anyone have a lead on anyone on 106.5 playing Christmas music? Could be a pirate but comes in fairly well on Grand River and 96.
You are hearing FM106.5 Kalamazoo, our local Santa-sponsored station.

Re: 1260 Zeeland Transmitter site burns

I sent an e-mail to them in Big Rapids - which I've done before in the past with zero reply, so there's no surprise there - asking them the same thing basically. I was curious if they planned to take their 107.7, which has a truly epic shitty signal, and broadcast some HD channel from a co-owned st...
