Re: Two Detroit CW Networks.

The CW is what UPN evolved into. The old UPN was good at first, and then went downhill during the final years. The CW wasn't much better. After being on 50 for a long time, the CW briefly went to WADL 38. Channel 20 carried their programming after that. Now channel 20 is the new indie, and WADL is u...

Re: CHR station on the AM dial in the mid 90s

CFGO 1200 in Ottawa was another am only CHR at the time. It was 50,000 watts. The last am CHR in Toronto was on until 1995. It was 640 CHOG. From 1992 up until their 1995 sign off, they were known as The Beat of Toronto.

Tecsun S-2200x Radio

Official SWL has a ton of videos about this radio on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@OfficialSWLchannel Radio Jay Allen also reviewed it. https://radiojayallen.com/tecsun-s-2200x-world-band-radio/ Here are some of my observations. On Shortwave it sounds great. I listened to World of Radio on WRMI l...

Re: FCC decision on HD Radio

On many radio stations either option poses a problem. If 97-1 The Ticket boosts left, they eat away at the coverage of WBTI on 96.9 If 97-1 The Ticket boosts right, part of WJZE's area on 97.3 from Ohio suffers from a loss of coverage. I agree that adjacent channel interference will indeed get worse.

Re: ATSC 3.0 Audio Services tested in Detroit

On the TV side of it, potential 3.0 consumers will want something that just functions properly. DRM encryption is enough to kill off that technology. With the radio side of it all we now have both 3.0 in the testing phase, and that recent HD Radio power boost is on the horizon. As mentioned, adjacen...

Re: In need of a decent TV antenna

Another good one is that Televes DiNova Boss Mix on the first link. It is amplified with an LTE filter. One limitation to consider is that on the ground floor, you will not get the 60-mile range that it claims.

Re: ATSC 3.0 Audio Services tested in Detroit

There are already too many FM stations in many places relative to the pool of available advertising dollars. Adding another broadcast band to car radios is a very bad idea. UHF DTV signals have a propensity to flutter / drop out for a second or two intermittently on windy days. Audio only signals b...

Re: ATSC 3.0 Audio Services tested in Detroit

Local and regional owners would have to buy the radio stations away from the national corporate suits to change the content. In some markets this is happening.

ATSC 3.0 Audio Services tested in Detroit

In other words, it is a new Digital Radio method. They used the same UHF spectrum that TV uses. The range shown on the map is superior to HD Radio. It looks like they have two choices. #1 Make it standard in every car #2 Make it optional and watch it fail the way both AM Stereo and HD Radio did. htt...

Re: CKWW WILL LIVE ON!

There are plans to make CKWW less music intensive than it is right now. It will also continue to focus on Windsor only.

Re: CKWW WILL LIVE ON!

Add more News and Talk programming to CKWW's schedule. A music intensive format will not work on AM radio in Windsor. Even going Ethnic from 9 pm to 6 am each day is worth looking into.

Re: CKWW WILL LIVE ON!

They are also having issues with the way CKOC Hamilton sounds at times. Every so often CKOC sounds over driven like the VU meters are in the red.

Re: CKWW WILL LIVE ON!

The 55+ numbers for CFZM might be strong. I just don't know where to find them.

The FM signal was built to improve reception where the streetcar lines are.

Re: CKWW WILL LIVE ON!

I'd be putting Oldies on AM 1160 and Brother fill-in-the-blank on 1460 right about now (if anywhere).
