Was there a point in time in which WOTV wasn't carried in Muskegon? It's entirely possible that some of the volunteer programmers at WYCE record their air shifts in advance rather than being live on-air, and it's entirely possible that if someone who had a live shift was unable to make it to the station that they chose to run a recorded show early.

Bit of trivia, the ball drop was initially conceived by the owner of the NYT in 1907. I think the main reason why it's still the biggest New Year's celebration in the US is because it's the oldest.
