Re: Soaring Eagle to stay open
\There's really no reason to drive from, say, the Grand Rapids area to gamble at Soaring Eagle anymore - unless one wishes to make a weekend getaway out of it or wishes to catch a summer concert. Driving to Mt. Pleasant from G.R. is a pain in the ass! The massive expansion of Gun Lake has probably ...

Definitely seems to be a trend lately.Reese K Rickards wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 1:26 pmI suspect he will emerge as a PR guy for some local government agency, and all the better for it.

Re: Milwaukee Bucks boycott game v. Orlando magic
For all practical purposes the players had no other choice than to walk away from play. Not after having to go to bat for permission to wear BLM warm-up's, messages on their uniforms and messaging in the venue. The owners, league and TV networks would have been quite happy to have none of that appe...

Re: WGVU TV weaker up North since the last repack?
WWMT doesn't have the viewership or the news coverage in the Muskegon/GH area for them to justify the cost of putting a translator in up here. You seem focused on news ratings. What about the CBS primetime schedule, NCAA basketball, NFL football, and PGA golf? Fair point, but even if people don't h...

Re: How Many Members in WZZM’s Weather Club?
Just wondering who’s filling the roles these days, didn’t figure George Lessens would retire till after Bill Steffen did across town. Next summer will give Bill 20 years at WOOD, after almost 27 years at WZZM. I imagine he'll stick around long enough to at least hit that milestone. I could also see...

Re: WGVU TV weaker up North since the last repack?
Given the fact Muskegon & Grand Haven are significant population centers, it does surprise me WWMT doesn't have a translator or repeater in the area. Then again, WZZM's signal has been awful in far southern Kent County & far southern Ottawa County for years, and they don't seem to care, either. WWM...

Re: WWMT is building a new studio and control room
I really hate how the local stations have to include "news" into their name. IMO, News 3 sounds better than Newschanel 3. I find it interesting that the news stations, at least in this market, have dropped separate news/station branding in favor of just one: WZZM is "13 On Your Side" for everything...

Given that they also have 95.3 in Muskegon, this seems to make sense

Do the web sites for all TV news stations owned by Meredith look this horrible? Actually, yes. They do. I just checked out the sites for a few other Meredith Stations, and they're all visually identical except for the logo on the top navigation bar. At the bottom, they say "Powered by BLOX Content ...

Re: WOTV - Virtual Channel 4?
I thought GR was the only market that had 2 ABC'S. It would be interesting to see if any other TV market has 2 NBC's, CBS'S, etc. Boston has two ABC affiliates, too, I believe. There are a few other markets that have dual affiliates for one of the networks, multi-city DMAs that are larger, geograph...

How popular are the Milwaukee teams in the UP or around Muskegon/Ludington? I don't think Milwaukee teams have much, if any, following around here. People are either loyal Detroit fans, Packers fans (as football goes), Chicago fans, or fans of any other team, or don't care about pro sports - roughl...

Re: "new" 7&4 News upload
I imagine the only reason anyone ever had to videotape the local news was because they were working some kind of night shift schedule and wanted to be able to watch the news when they got home (since this was long before we had the Internet, let alone smartphones, to instantly access the news at any...

Re: Meteorologist Aaron Ofseyer Leaving WZZM
WZZM must be pretty shitty to work at if on air staff go ti completely different fields I'm sure part of that is also because, at least for those who have put down roots in the GR area and own homes and are raising families, it's far easier to stay in the area and work in a different field (especia...

Re: Meteorologist Aaron Ofseyer Leaving WZZM
Will be interesting to see where Aaron winds up given his statement they are staying in the area but does not say what he will be doing. Gut feeling that once the non-compete clause expires, he'll wind up on WOOD doing the 7pm weather segments and become chief meteorologist there when Bill Steffen ...
