Re: 101.3 The Brew

101.3 is an abomination of a radio station. An absolute embarrassment and a microcosm of everything that is wrong with mega corporate radio. I do not know if I've ever seen a crappier rock playlist in a top 100 market. The sad thing is - iFart uses the exact same playlist on WHEB in Portsmouth, NH,...

Re: 93.1 Grand Haven

They were having problems all day Sunday. Went blank after just about every stopset. Sometimes I wonder how much 92.1/93.1/94.9 personnel listen to their own stations. 94.9 modulates at about 30% peaks much of the time (god help your ears if you tune from 94.9 to another station--you'll have ringing...

Re: So many 50 kW AM signals

Coverage areas differ tremendously from west to east in Michigan. I remember seeing a map of 1520 kHz coverage areas in Michigan back in the 1970s. WKJR-1520 Muskegon covered about the same area in square miles with 10 kilowatts as did WYNZ-1520 Ypsilanti with 250 watts! Neither station exists anymo...

Re: 106.7 WLLZ: Detroit's Wheels (Classic Rock) is here

What ever they are playing right now, this will quickly devolve into the standard iFart/"Premium Choice" line up of music and jocks. This is what happened in Grand Rapids with 101.3 in the change over from "the Fox" to "the Brew". In other words, a few weeks of experimenting with some less burnt out...

At least some of the jocks are voice-tracked. The guy doing middays who calls himself "Ryan" on the Q is Stiller from WLAV, where he does evenings.

Re: What ever happened to WZND Zeeland?

My grandfather was friends with Chuck Rich, who owned WZND. Chuck's son, Craig, was the station PD. WZND played country. I visited the place in about 1978. It was operating out of an old chicken barn in downtown Zeeland. For the first 10 years or so of its life, WZND was mono, using an old, 1950s-vin...

Re: WGN Transmitting Station From 1939

A couple of observations: --AM Radio was the cutting-edge technology of the 1920s and 30s. Ah, those were the days ! --Caould you imagine a newspaper today printing such a technical article explaining how any of today's technologies work in such detail? It's amazing how "dumbed down" our media have ...

I always thought the "Big Ol' Jet Airliner" chorus was singing "Big ol' Jedi Liner". Luke, I am not your father! 8)

When I was younger, I never could figure out why the Christmas Carol "Jingle Bells" sang about a "One Whore Soap and Sleigh"

Re: Radio And the year you Graduated.

I graduated in 1975. On the west side of Michigan, I listened to the following on my AM-Radio Only car radio : WLS,-890, WCFL:-1000, WOKY-920, WLAV-1340, WTRU-1600, and WMAX-1480. In the house, with an AM/FM radio available, I also listened to WGRD-97.9, WLAV-FM 96.9, WVGR-104.1, and WLRQ-95.3.

Re: Is this something that Comcast could fix?

Have the same problem with Charter standard-def. (Free HD, my ass!) WXMI and WWMT get full-screen cutoff (except during NFL games!?!). WOOD-TV and WZZM, among others, are "letterboxed" so the full widescreen signal is shown (albeit with a black space at the top and bottom of the picture). It may be ...

KNAC lives on only as a website. KNAC-FM, the actual radio station, changed format and probably call letters several years ago.

No More X103.9

After 20 years as an alternative/rock station, KCXX-103.9 Lake Arrowhead, CA has changed its calls (to KHTI) and its format (to Top 40). The change happened on December 23. The Inland Empire area no longer has an alternative station. I enjoyed listening to "X 103.9" (online & via airchecks from a fr...

Re: Old cable lineups

The machine they used during the late 80's was developed up in Canada called the "Telidon", the graphics it produced looks similar to these videos below. Apparently the original use of this system was for two-way interactivity with the customers themselves, but The Blade only used it passively to p...
