Re: Two Anchors Out at WLNS

Graham Wellingham asked: "What's up with this place?" I can sum it up in three words: NEXSTAR MEDIA GROUP. Perry Sook and company follow a pattern that, unfortunately, has become all too common in the industry. They have stars in their eyes about becoming media moguls. They buy up or merge with com...

Re: CBSDetroit62

RingtailedFox is correct about CBS pursuing WADL for an affiliation agreement. I believe compensation was only one issue that drove CBS away from 38. I believe (I don't know for certain) I did hear CBS also wanted a commitment to creating a news department from the get-go. That was something Adell j...

Re: Memories of Old 62

IIRC, there was one "televangelist" who appeared on WGPR-TV, who was also a former "pro" wrestler, who was called out by the Freep for a fundraising campaign for his ministry. He was appealing to viewers to pledge money so he could reach is goal of one-million dollars to "buy a UHF television statio...

Bet there wasn't a dry eye at 13 WZZM when this news arrived

For anyone at 13 who worked under this guy, from what I heard, I'm certain there wasn't a dry eye in the house when they got this news. He gutted a quality station after a highly leveraged purchase. It hasn't been the same since. BTW this was a paid obit. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/nytimes/obi...

Re: WJR-AM's CBS Radio Affiliation

Truck 451 wrote: Was WJBK-AM/WDEE-AM affiliated with any radio network? The reason why I am asking is because the Storer family always had very good relations with CBS... As far as I know and have been able to find out, although I'm not saying this is the definitive answer, WJBK-AM/WDEE-AM was never...

Re: WJR-AM's CBS Radio Affiliation

It was Autumn 1976 an announcement came of a major affiliation change in the Detroit market. At the time, it was on par with the 1994 TV affiliation switch involving WJBK-TV. The Evening News Association, owners of the Detroit News, WWJ-AM, WWJ-FM and WWJ-TV Channel 4, had long time ties with NBC go...

Re: Palin in ICU

As terrible as Palin is, I would have much rather had John McCain these last eight years than the disaster that is Barack Obama. http://www.greenchilisage.com/content/uploads/2015/09/Facebook-shot.jpg Sorry you're having such a struggle with simple things as facts. Those include Dumbya's going to w...

Re: Memories of Old 62

I can do you one better. I remember watching 62 when it was the first incarnation of WXON-TV (Now WMYD). I remember it being promoted by a helicopter over Tiger Stadium during a game in 1968 between Oakland and the Tigers. The sign said something to the effect of "Good luck Tigers from Detroit's New...

Re: What if WJBK became a CBS O&O?

Yeah, I forgot about KKR's brief ownership of WJBK-TV. You knew Channel 2 and anything else KKR could get their hands on would be in for some dark times under their watch. WJBK-TV was the flagship station for the Detroit Tigers from the 1950's (not sure the exact year) up until 1974. That's when WWJ...

Re: What if WJBK became a CBS O&O?

Actually mtburb, the "what if scenario..." you've mentioned ALMOST came true during the Gillett years at the former Storer stations. His purchase of WJBK-TV et al was part of the trend of leveraged buyouts that became all too common in the early 1980's. George N. Gillett had some major interest paym...

Re: Indiana just shot their economic growth plan in the foot

This comes from the state that inflicted J.D. Quayle upon the nation and took in a carpet bagger who fled Maryland like a thief in the night with his pro (allegedly) football team, yet never lived to see them become much. Why are we so surprised?

Re: Will Kasich get in the ring or not?

I still doubt he'd appeal... It'll be between Bush, Paul and Walker... I could deal with those three candidates. Unfortunately, I can't imagine there not being one religious torpedo in the top grouping. I couldn't disagree more as far as dealing with these three. The Bush name isn't as golden as it...
