Re: Classic Country
This is going to be the death of traditional radio. It isn't entirely the fault of radio. Advertising is enamored with Google, Facebook, Criteo giving them dashboards full of graphs and metrics that they love to talk about, all while not discussing the fact that most of it is nonsense. Radio had wa...

Re: Classic Country
In addition, WSDS 1480-AM was a Classic Country station until 2005. See this story: http://carcitycountry.com/2012/wysi-wsds-story-part-one/ WSDS changed formats in roughly 2005 to become "La Explosiva," and is now a Spanish-language station Now that is funny. Explosiva is a colloquialism in certai...

Re: Do station employees watch their own station?
When I worked in TV, I did watch the station for newscasts. It was far easier to see problems live rather than having to play twenty questions with the person calling me from the station. Likewise, when management showed up in the shop complaining about something, being able to say "I saw that" head...

Re: Local on-air pers. in the movies
Smilovitz was in an 80's movie because of his short lived 12-14 month stint at WCBS. He was on the TV as the scene panned across the room, but I don't recall the film title. Not only is it odd that his schtick become old quick in NYC, but he did it with two long stints in Detroit. I have no idea why...

Re: WMYD will switchover to ATSC 3.0 today at 10AM EST, 12/07.
Apparently TV executives haven't heard of Verizon, AT&T nor T-Mobile. There is nothing that prevents them from implementing a multicast distribution over their cellular IP networks. These people are throwing anything at the wall to see what sticks before they end up having to give up more spectrum ...

Looks like its on air to be mostly a test bed for the automotive manufacturers and their in-vehicle entertainment systems. https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/nextgen-tv-races-to-detroit?utm_source=SmartBrief&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=C74FC4FA-5D4D-4151-8915-3043BA411DBE&utm_content=6D359E39-C75F...

Re: Dick Kernen of Specs Howard/WRIF Passes...
Man this is sad. I loved Kernan. When I started at Specs I had asked the advice of Larry Patton what to expect. He gave me some advice and then said “Tell Dick Kernan I said hello.” When I brought up to Dick that I knew Larry he stopped and said “there are a lot of people who claim they got screwed...

Re: The FCC Will Vote This Month on All-Digital AM
Why don't they adopt the European DAB standard and move all the AM stations there? I get that AM has some great nostalgia, and getting rid of it would render the few antique AM radios I keep as cultural oddities, but this plan is just silly.

Re: Biden laptop
Conspiracy theory has come to mean any truth that is embarrassing to the Democrats and their internationalist supporters. Prove that they are not authentic. That's not how this works. It is incumbent upon those making the claim to prove they *are* authentic. The fact that they are PDFs with origina...

Re: Locast Streaming Local TV Channels In Detroit
Sounds like the rebirth of Aereo. Will it meet the same fate? Maybe? Instead of technical nuance to get around copyright law, Locast uses an exception granted in copyright law. That does not mean that they won't be sued until they are out of money, but I think they stand a better chance that Aereo....

Re: WDRQ must be making WYCD sweat
WYCD is becoming more and more unlistenable. Their jingles are horrendous - they belong on a CHR station. But maybe they fit since very little of the music they play is country. DRQ is only slightly better musically, but they do appear to be more proactive in playing female artists, which is good w...

Re: Schitt's Creek
You may be paying for it when ATSC 3.0 becomes reality. ATSC3.0 and the internet will work together in this new generation of television. The Networks want you to buy their product and NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox want to make money and be on an even playing field with internet, cable and satellite. So it...

Long gone are the days of great programming and great talent on WOMC like Big Al, Bob Vandergrift, Dana Masucci, Dave Fuller, Dick Puritan, Don Phillips, Lisa Lisa Orlando, Rick Hunter, Tom Force, Tom Ryan, etc. Same thing for WYCD over the years with Chuck Edwards, Dr. Don Carpenter, Joe Wade Form...

"A player, if he chooses, can have the name of a Black person wronged in a confrontation with police emblazoned on the back of his helmet. End zones will have “It Takes All Of Us” on one end line, “End Racism” on the other. Coaches and game officials will be able to wear patches on their cap with t...

Re: Media Coverage of Local Sports Protests
Draw your weapons only if you see a weapon first. Currently a police officer is 18.5 times more likely to be shot by a black male than a black male is to be shot by a cop. That policy will kick it up to about 30 to 1. You see, if someone with a gun you cant see runs from you and gets behind cover, ...
