Re: WCXI Cool1160

WCAR is still on night time pattern, daytime power at the moment. There's a couple contactor/load issues, then we can get it into day pattern. All of this equipment sat unmaintained for several years, so some fine-tuning and readjustment is needed. We're shooting for the end of this week (and maybe ...

Re: WCXI Cool1160

Time for another state of the union. As you guys already know, WCXI is back up to it's full daytime power. Hoping to get the format launched next week. We are in our second phase of the stunt. I still need to get a couple things out and done before we launch officially, so bear with me. We're almost ...

Re: WCXI Cool1160

Definitely. It's in night pattern, so it's supposed to go directly north. Our STA from the FCC on it expires in mid-november.

Re: WCXI Cool1160

Yes, 1090 is finally back on the air...at about half the range. Still working out some kinks with the transmitter and phasers (something's up with the VSWR apparently). Our chief engineer is back in town for the next two weeks and will work on it with me. A stream for 1090 is coming soon and I'm ...

Yup, got that up and running yesterday. An antenna upgrade and slight pattern adjustment is coming soon as well.

Re: WCXI Cool1160

Update for you guys. All of the projects are still a go. In fact, WCXI is in full on stunting mode at the moment. No more Brother Cult! WCAR is off the air right now. Our Harris MW-1, in service since 1979, just kicked the bucket a few weeks ago. We have a new BE AM-1A racked up, but it needs to be ...

Re: WCXI Cool1160

I was certain it was you and you’d chime in with details. The changes to WPON make sense. Still brings in revenue from the brokered shows. WCXI and WCAR, certainly it’s an upgrade to the formats and there was a large overlap between the latter and WSDS signal wise. Have you planned on how you will g ...

Re: WCXI Cool1160

Hey gang, I guess it's about time I give my "state of the union" on Birach and what's going on with WCXI. First off, I am the culprit behind Cool 1160. This has been a passion project for me since 2018, believe it or not! This new station is an evolution of my first foray into radio, a part 15, low ...

The show is now an automated music mix, but if you have any suggestions for the mix, let me know and I'll put them in!

Re: Beasley Sells Detroit Translator

I worked at WPON 25+ years ago when the transmitter was still at the Benstein Road site. There were numerous stations that were "in the way" of any sort of power increase, WHLS-AM Port Huron being one of them. Class B WBRN-AM Big Rapids was another. I still wonder what the coverage was like from ...

Re: Over Easy

We've been working on a similar, curated, easy rock show for WPON, but we scrapped it. Might not be a bad time to bring it back. Would be a great option to have - especially since it can be streamed, I see the WPON website got a bit of a facelift - any schedule updates listed or will be ? Yeah ...

Re: Beasley Sells Detroit Translator

I've taken over as the in-market engineer for the Birach Detroit cluster. As of right now, none of the AMs are lowering power or going dark because of the translators. Sima did work out a deal in Chicago to get WNWI on FM, and he's definitely looking to get more for other markets. In Detroit, only ...

Re: Over Easy

WCXI has always gone farther and sounded better, day and night, probably due to it being run by a Harris DX-15. And believe it or not, it's not even running it full power. It's been on night pattern at 432 watts for the past few months. We had to file an STA for it. For whatever reason, it won't ...

Re: Over Easy

That's always been the weakest part about 'PON at the Milford site. Not sure what'll happen, but with a lot of the stations on surrounding frequencies going dark, like 1470 WFNT in the Flint area, we may be able to apply for a power increase. Going up to at least 1KW would be great. We did bump the ...
