Re: MW DX
On AM my greatest reaches were KNX and KFI on a old Spartan tube radio/record player while living in Detroit. Never heard an official ID, but heard a spot for the Southern California Muscular Dystrophy Association. In various cars I have heard KNBR on the roof of Cobo Hall on several occasions, and ...

Re: Strangest Radio Signals
Back in the late 60's there was a station at either 530 or 540 AM that broadcast just a morse code. I was only able to receive it at night. The code was -.. -... - The signal would repeat for hours on end, and I was never able to hear and ID for the station. Just wondering if anyone else remembers h...

Re: MW DX Tonight
WC8KCY, based on my experience, most likely that "Mexican" station on 640 was Radio Progreso, a 50K from Havana. It is a music station that broadcasts in Spanish. Back in the 70's it was an easy pull on winter nights in Detroit. Another Cuban blaster was 830 CMCA (Radio Havana, Cuba). It was a full-...

Re: Unusual DX for me.
I know what you mean. Back in the day when WQTE (now WRDT) signed off I never knew what the night signal would be in Detroit. Depending on the day it could be WIND (Chicago), WJLS (Beckley, WV), WIS (now WVOC in Columbia, SC), WQAM in Miami or even CJKL in Kirkland Lake, ON.

Re: Unusual DX for me.
Speaking of WTCM I have heard it several times in the early morning on I-696 between the 96/275 junction and Orchard Lake Road. I suspect that is a null on CKWW's pattern.

Re: Unusual DX for me.
Thank you for your response, CK-722. It seems odd to me, too, because the only large body of water in line was Lake Huron. But it definitely was the Wings game I heard. The only other unusual DX was one time back in the 80's I heard WPIE 1160 in Trumansburg, NY in Livonia with their night power of 3...

Unusual DX for me.
This past Sunday (12/29/2019) evening about 9:30pm I was at the Walpole Island dock and was able to listen to the Red Wings on 1110AM. From what I can find the only Wings affiliate on that frequency is WJML. Is it possible for 10 watts to make it that far to the southeast from Petoskey? The signal f...

Re: Realistic DX 160
I bought my DX-160 back in '76. Still have it. The only antenna I have on it is a straight copper wire about 10 feet long. Have logged all continents on it except for Antarctica.

Re: Beautiful Music Stations in Detroit
Currently I am listening to a Beautiful Music station. It is WAVV/101.1 from Marco Island, Florida. The first song they played was an instrumental version of "I Love Paris." That was followed by Perry Como "And I Love You So." The third song was an instrumental. That was followed by "Our Day Will Co...

Re: WOW FM?
JD (Jim Daniels) and Katie did mornings. They would go to various grade schools in the area and have a class recite the pledge every morning. My wife applied and both of my daughters' classes made it on air.

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?
For me the furthest AM is probably PBJ 800 from Bonaire, though in the 60's also heard Belize at 833, and YNKW at 875 from Managua, Nicaragua. Also heard a Spanish broadcast on 700 behind WLW, never able to verify the station, but suspect Quito. About 15 years ago heard KILT at 100.3 from Houston as...

Re: WTVN 610
Back in the 60's, while living in northwest Detroit, I had a tube radio that during the day I could turn to null WTVN and get weak reception from CKTB in St. Catharines.

Re: Misheard Song Lyrics
The lyric I misunderstood for years was from "Loving You Has Made Me Bananas" by Guy Marks.
The correct lyric is "Father Had the Shipfitter Blues."
I misheard it as "Father sailed the ship in her Blues."
