Re: SHortwave pirate stations

A FIRST! Today, I heard two pirates sharing the same frequency, one on lower sideband, one on upper. In AM mode, all you heard was static from lightning. Flip to LSB - Radio Gaga, flip to USB, Amphetemine Radio. How bizzare!

Re: Amazon / Lexa Commercial

Audio... I kinda like the idea of controlling things via tartphone, but the idea that large corporations lock you into using their infrastructure, I don't like. Personally, I think someone is nuts to put cameras around their house connected to google, etc. I'm not going to do it. I trust corporation...

Re: SHortwave pirate stations

The pirates I have heard ALL sound better than a lot of commercial stations. That's a sad testament to radio IMO. Even the ones using sideband modes sound really good if you widen the filter out a bit. Most send a generic eQSL by slow scan TV following their broadcasts. I got an eQSL from Mix Radio ...

Re: SHortwave pirate stations

I heard XFM last night. Signal was beat up by static crashes, but was there on practically every online SDR I checked across the country. XFM has been around for decades, and he transmits C-QuAM on shortwave. He sounds better than anything I've ever heard on HF. Highs out to 20kHz!

Re: They cannot fill this position in Lansing...

Lansing was once an exciting, vibrant, fun, innovative market. These days? Completely bush-league. What I hear on the radio more or less reflects what you see. Driving through, Lansing looks like just another forgotten Midwest factory town. Even once trendy Okemos looks like an aging, tired suburb,...

Re: “Don’t like it? Go buy an antenna!”

I just did the same. 1942 posts, and probably 5 with any actual merit. I just put up a UHF antenna, but aimed at WDCQ since Direct doesn't carry their Create subchannel. They are *so* gone when our contract expires. I will NOT go back to Comcrap, either, so I will have to hope there is some other wa...

Re: Audio processing issues at iFart's Detroit stations (92.3 & 100.3)

In the days of analog processing, stations generally sounded consistent unless there was a failure or the settings were refreshed. Since the advent of digital processing, pretty much all of it sounds bad IMO. A lot of that is simply abusive settings. I am convinced that a lot of current engineers do...

Re: Source: Cumulus Detroit is for sale...

My guess? Regardless of who (if anybody) buy the CU stations, they will still be corporate suck radio. Sad to say that, but I have zero faith in ANY corporation, to provide anything even halfway decent, ever. And that isn't just radio, but everything. If terrestrial radio dies off, it will be becaus...

Re: Worst Tower Sites For Getting Stuck-Water, Mud, Sand, Snow, Ice, Grade, etc.

WSAM sounded wonderful when I worked there in 1987-88. They used a CRL stack then. Not sure what Ken runs on it now. Wish it was still C-QuAM though. I still get a listenable signal from them on the west side of Flint during the day. Some radios have a hard time, but then, I have a big stack I need ...

Re: Shortwave pirate stations

There are quite a few between 5 and 7 MHz typically. Most run AM but some do run USB mode. But I've heard pirates from below the AM band all the way to 35MHz. Occasionally, I find pirate activity around the 49MHz band as well when the bands are open.
